Q:

HST VS Regulator

Dears;

this question is in my mind a while ago, especially after adjusting my Edgun HST 1 1/4 turn off,

as all knows HST and Regulator are tow different parts in our PCP guns, So, when we are adjusting HST, for ex; my Edgun regulator adjusted with average of shooting a .22cal JSB 18.13gr with 1001 fps, and now i have turned the HST 1 1/4 turn off, so still the Regulator is working with the same adjustment (because i didn’t touch the rgul) and has its own air pressure inside the regulator air tube, and the HST is reduced So, both they were working together on one line, but now HST has less hammer hitting, and i am thinking of the remained air pressure inside the regulator air tube, because the HST noes’t have the enough power to pull out all the air from the regultr air tube, So, what will happen to that remained air inside the regultr air tube? in every shot since the HST doesn’t have the enough hammer hitting to be worked perfectly with the regulator,

please some skill guy explain it to us…..

Brother Hemn; turning the HST down doesn’t allow all of the regulated pressure to leave the regulator’s plenum chamber. The lower HST setting and the left over pressure in the reg plenum won’t hurt anything.

The reg will just refill to the set pressure before the next shot. If the reg is set at 130 bar, it doesn’t matter if there is 20 bar or 120 bar left in the plenum, the reg will fill the plenum to 130 bar as long as there is more than 130 bar in the air tube.

IIRC, your Matador was shooting around 1000 fps when delivered. I read that you turned the HST screw out 1 ½ turns to bring the speeds down.

I don’t know where your gun is shooting now, I guess around 950, what ever the current speed is, you will only get the first 10-15 shots at that speed before the speeds start rising.

You WILL end up with a bell curve on the shot string. The HST and reg settings work in unison. If you like the current speed, just shoot 10-15 shots and then refill.

Some of the guys here are happy with 950 fps speeds. At one time, I was a power junky also. I spent a few days at the local 100 yard range testing speeds from 850 to 1000 fps. On an absolutely calm day, speeds from 850 to 950-975 produced similar 100 yard groups.

If there was any breeze at all, the higher speeds were more affected by it. 850 was less affected by the breeze than any other speed. It didn’t matter what direction that the wind was blowing, 850 was the best.

I did this testing with the Matador tethered to a tank and just turned the HST as needed to get the speeds for testing. I settled for 885 fps; I’m still a power junky!

Brother Hemn: It appears to me that you are aspiring to become one of us anal Matador owners!

If so; you will eventually need to turn the reg down. I know that doing that sounds like more work than you want to do. You shouldn’t have to do that to a new gun. YADA YADA YADA.

EVERYBODY here has felt the same thing at one time! The truly anal Matador owners LOVE to tune their guns!

Ed builds the Matador to be easily worked on and it is built like a Russian tank. If you can round up some O rings and a couple of air valve rods, you should be able to hand the Matador down to your son when you get too old to shoot it.

Dear Eduard;

Please tell me does it affect the accuracy? or affect the shot consistency?

remaining air inside the regulator air tube will harm anything?

do you prefer HST adjustment only or both HST and Regulator?

quote Ed:

The air from regulator doesn’t flow completly out of it during the short.

The air from regulator doesn’t flow completly out of it during the short.

I didn’t get that target, it maybe lost in the airport when they checked the box or Eduard didn’t put this in my Box.

Eduard;

do you usually attach the tested targets with a stapler on the user manual or just leaving it inside the papers?

I have already sent an email to Eduard asked about this but he looks liek quite busy with the Edgun .30cal of US guys.

quote Sir Ville:

I think your rifle came with a little target shot at the factory. 10 shot grouping and the speed the group was shot is also written down onto that same target. Am i right ?? !

My less than educated quess is that your EdGun reg is set at 130 Bar from the factory – as they all are in .22 cal ,more or less. The HST has been screwed upto 1000+ fps speeds for some reason (once Ed stated “to show that there´s a reserve of power if needed”) i don´t know. I think your rifle came with a little target shot at the factory. 10 shot grouping and the speed the group was shot is also written down onto that same target. Am i right ?? If i am the speed the target/grouping was shot is somewhere between 280-285 mps if things haven´t changed since a little while back.
So there´s no reason to worry. Once you start the tuning,after the reg is broken in, you will lessen the reg output a little to find the most air-efficient setting between the reg and HST settings to get them to work in unison and mutual harmony.
So don´t fret ; Put on a pair of Klaw-Kalash´s and go shooting!
