Projectile Prep
I’ve got some hideous strain of flu that’s going around, so I thought it’d be a good time to clean, sort, and lube some ammo. I’ve got a crappy $10-on-eBay scale that will measure to 0.2 grain. I’m aware that at best it’s a POS, but it’s repeatable even if the reading itself is bullshit. I’ve sorted to a 1% tolerance. I’m only interested in 50-ish yard accuracy. Is weighing to this tolerance a waste of time? Is there anything else I should do while I’m at it?
Tony’s testing my Condor today, so it’s time to get serious. I’m hoping to eliminate excuses for lousy shooting, since I’ve never been able to shoot a new gun for the first few hundred rounds. I want to cut the learning curve as much as possible.

roll em man, weighing will be way to time consuming, i roll and keep that batch for the finest work, and shoot the culls for plinking or what ever. i don’t roll all just for the fine target work and it makes a difference for my stuff for sure.
you will find that the jsb will go into like 3 piles, where crossman hollow points , will go into 5 or 6 piles while roll sorting.

any way do a search on goodle for pellet sorting , there is allot on there for reading.
My surmise is that weighting will only be the last step in the process for very fine work, rolling is much quicker and does the job. i can sit and roll a tin while watching a movie.

If you have the time and want to get really anal about sorting, do a roll test.
Place them on a sheet of glass/mirror alonside a straight-edge. Let them roll slowly across the glass and mark where they reach the other side.
Consistent skirt/head diameters will reveal themselves.

In my old benji 917 pumper days mid 1970’s my friends older brother should us this trick he called head to skirt ratio testing. We found that the one that had the biggest curve( rolled the straightest) shot more accurately, and seemed to fit smoothly in the breech.
Also I find this poster to be very interesting reading his posts airgunsoftulsa make me want to start rolling again ………..
