Not sure about my new Talon SS
Hey everyone,
I’ve been lurking here for awhile and finally pulled the trigger on a new .22 Talon SS w/ Spin-Lok tank and Sound-Lok suppression. So far due to the weather and it being pitch-black when I get home from work, I haven’t had a chance to really put it through the ropes. I have shot it about a hundred times but am still having trouble deciding wether or not I’ll keep it.
You see, for a VERY long time, I have been interested in getting a Benjamin Marauder Pistol but recently decided to get the Talon instead. I have researched both guns extensively and feel I have a pretty good grasp on each but wondered you all can give me any insight on how to decide. (I have a Marauder Pistol on it’s way to check it out)
Here’s what I like and don’t like about both:
Talon like’s:
-completely interchangable and upgardeable parts
-One MAJOR LIKE: detachable tank WITH spare tanks that can be purchased
(I work at a Safety and Env company that we fill SCBA’s for fire and industrial… Filling is readily available and I don’t have to bring in the gun part in order to do that)
-simplicity of components
-(of course USA made/ Not a major deal breaker no offense)
-quiet
-seems to be higher shot count than Marauder
-adjustable power
Talon Dislike’s:
-having to mount the scope etc. so high in order to use it correctly
-single shot
-not having your typical rifle or gun appearance (BUT again that could also be a positive thing)
(there are others but can’t think of them at the moment)
Benjamin Marauder Pistol Like’s:
-MAJOR LIKE: 8 round clip with able to purchase more clips
-more compact
-quiet
-portability
Benjamin Marauder Pistol Dislike’s:
-NO removable tank/ I would have to fill the gun at work/ or make sure to have a SCBA tank on hand at the house
-(I’ve heard) very light-weight almost toy feeling/ not sure if I would like that
-In order to customize the power, drilling etc to modify is in order/ shot count drastically decreases
-I’ve heard that many have had to go through a couple pistols making sure they didn’t leak
-There doesn’t seem to be AS much aftermarket parts etc. as there is for Talon
I appreciate everyone taking the time to read this and respond but I can NOT afford to keep both and I’m torn on which one. I do know that even without trying the Marauder, that I’m leaning towards keeping the Talon. I just wish it had a magazine/ clip etc.
Please don’t flame me but I do value all of your opinions on this.

Sorry, that I didn’t clarify the caliber, but it’s just a plain ol’ stock marauder pistol that’s .22.
Now my Talon SS is also in .22 but I can always swap that out with the .25 cal down the road. I love that about Airforce guns.

I did not see what caliber you got the p-rod in but if it is a .22 then i dont think you will be missing much by not trying it out unless the p-rod has a much better reputation for accuracy than the .22 mrod.

I would LOVE to keep them both and actually the Marauder arrived from the “brown” truck this afternoon. But I just can’t justifying the total all at once. You know… Wife, kid, mortgage, new car…LOL
I have to say, that it is SO much better in person and to hold than to look at the pictures. I still have one major thing against it, that I wish I could be able to unscrew the tank to fill it or to put on a spare. No option there…
Like I mentioned, I now shoot some in the evening with my Talon and in a couple days, I simply unscrew the tank and take it to work with me for a 30 sec top-off. How cool is that?…lol… I am now also VERY intrigued with all the customization that I can do with the Talon AND all of the components that are available for it. Kind of like a never ending project.
To be honest (some may flame me for this), I am thinking to just put the P-rod back in the box and ship it back, without even trying it out.
Am I crazy?

They are Pros to Cons with all guns !

The scope height is a pain but for short range use a laser mounted above the barrel (lower rail). And look at a Philips pellet holder for your tank.

Post your review of the two guns when you’re done comparing. I’m interested as I nearly pulled the PRod trigger a while ago.
Forget the Talon SS and go with the Prod. Because I’m such a nice guy, I’ll take the TSS off your hands.
Seriously, the Prod makes a great car gun or for quick, close range shots, but for range and accuracy the TSS wins hands down.
If you hit it with your first shot, you don’t need a quick follow-up shot.

Yeah, I guess the whole clip thing versus EVERYTHING else that I mentioned in favor of the the Talon SS, definately shouldn’t steer me towards the P-rod.
Right now, even though I have access to SCBA’s that I could snag for home (old ones that still have a few years left), I really like the fact that I can through in my Talon’s air-tank in my work bag. Get to work and take less than a minute to fill it up. Also being able to buy another spare tank in the future. To me, that’s a HUGE thing in favor of the AirForce guns.
I should be recieving the Marauder from UPS tomorrow so I may just check it out but send it back on it’s way.

I have both Talon and a P Rod (as well as other PCP rifles).
Hands down the Talon is the better shooting VALUE. Airforce rifles have the Lothar Walther barrel which has superior accuracy over the P Rod offering.
Yes, you can purchase an aftermarket barrel and all kinds of performance upgrades for the P rod but for dollars invested, the Airforce products will be the most rewarding. Don’t get me wrong; I like the P-rod but for me, the magazine feature really isn’t added value but the accuracy of the Talon is. My Talon is a bit heavier but when I draw down on Mr. Squirrel or Mr. Starling at 50+ yards it’s going to be lights out. 😯
Plus as a member of TAG you’ve get all the derelicts like us. 😀

I have 3 airforce guns two that are .22 and one that is .25 and a .177 barrel for switching. I have a .25 mrod and i really like it also but i wont touch an mrod in .22 because how many people have accuracy problems with them.
