Q:

Need scope help

I need help picking a new low end scope.
This scope is for nv stuff…the Hawke 8x32x56 and Centerpoint 6×24 are just not the right tools for the job.
This is for short range barn shooting maybe medium range shooting.

Here is what I want..in order of importance

1) most important HAS TO HAVE sidewheel parallax adjustment (side wheel focus), I can’t live without this one..I’m spoiled
2) has to focus at ranges shorter than 10yards
3) Variable 3X9 or close…2×7..3×10..or anything in the area
4) Reticle illumination would be nice
%) Small..lightweight a big plus

The el cheapo 70$ bugbuster would be fine if it had a side wheel parallax.

Ideas???

I have been very pleased with my BSA Cateye, like I said the only hitch I have found is the eye to scope line up is very narrow but it may be just me. I am a big guy and my fat cheek and the air tank on my Talon SS don’t always get along……. some complain about the screw in lense caps but personally I really like them after i cleaned off the threads and relubed them with gun oil.

I misquoted the price I paid, I mention 80 and 89 dollars. It was $79.97 plus tax.

I think we have a winner with that BSA.
It has the features that I NEED.

Newbie, they will focus fine at close yardage. Just not at full power. Which you don’t want in very close quarters hunting anyway. 😉

You can pick up a BSA Cateye scope for under $80, it has the side parallax and will focus under 10 yds if you keep the power under 6. I use one on my Talon SS and it works well. As always the hold over at under 10 yards is a pain since the scope sets so high. Just an idea, I have other 4x and 3 x 9’s that do well up close but I also shoot the diamonds on playing cards at 40 yds regularly so I like being able to ramp up the power. One note about the BSA is the fact it is very clear but it i also very finicky on how your eye lines up with it at 10x or higher.

On line it shows $99 but I bought mine in the store for $89.

Not too long ago I contacted Leapers about the exact same thing you are looking for, a Bug Buster with side paralax adjustment. I never heard anything back.

Until such happens, I see that you have three choices.

1) Forget the side wheel and go with the Bug Buster.

2) 1X dot scope – This can be the primary sight or a small one can be mounted in addition to the normal scope for close in shooting. That way it can be zeroed to 10 yards and not change the primary scope zero.

3) Buy something like this.

http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/CenterPoint_Adventure_Class_3x32_Rifle_Scope_Ill_Mil_Dot_Reticle_1_Tube_Weaver_Rings/4294

It has a fixed paralax of 30 yards. That should do for from about 50 yards to maybe below 10 yards. You can adjust the paralax by turning the front lense ring and adjust it for a closer paralax. I have done this myself with other similar scopes that had an 100 yard paralax and came on a cheapo sproinger that would in no way reach that far.

Thanks guys, I checked out the above scopes..

The only problem was the focus..they are from 10yards up.
The little bugbuster scopes focus starting at 3 or 5 yards

So im really lookin for a little scope with sidewheel than can focus under 10 yards
I’m just don’t know whats out there…

I like leapers/UTG scopes personally…go for the SWAT line, they have the side wheel..

I have the older version that is 4-12 with no illumination. The quality is pretty good, but because of the compact design, your image becomes blurry around the edges. It is my understanding that the optics have improved since I purchased mine. Even if it has not, it will be well worth this price. They make a “standard” length one also and the image is pretty good.
