Q:

Shots 7, 8, 9 & 10 from new Matador .30 long

Shots 1,2,3 – quick zero at 20yards
Shots 4, 5, 6 – quick zero height adjust for 50 yards
Shots 7, 8, 9 & 10, @ 50 yards, shooting prone off a bag:

I’m not that great a shot, and this was about 5 minutes worth of shooting.

The bolt is smooth, the trigger is the best I’ve had on a pellet gun

I do get a little. loud puff from the bolt, but this is the best out of the box experience I’ve ever had from a pellet gun, including my other edguns (.22 R2.5, .25 long early R3, and Veles).

Now I need to do a re re-build for my shoebox . . . .

My thoughts are very much in line with Hacampells.
The bolt pull on mine is smooth and I use the same technique he describes.
The trigger is very nice and a improvement over my R3 standard.
No pellet clipping issues with mine.
I have got mine sighted in at 50 yards in pretty miserable conditions and it looks like it is a shooter.
I think the only issue is getting the bolt blow by issue straightened out.
Hopefully it is as simple as a different sized O-ring.

I received my standard .30 yesterday also. I haven’t have a chance to mount the scope and shoot it yet. I suspect there may be few minor issues due to previous reviews so I did some thorough inspections.
Firsts I found the shroud is turned slightly off. The hole is at 5:30 o’clock position instead of 6 o’clock position. I did not want to shoot it yet until I know the shroud is perfectly straight. This is not a deal breaker because it can easily remedy with a cut off 12mm Allen and a wrench. For inspection, I used a drinking straw about the same size of the hole in the shroud. I just don’t want to stick something hard into the barrel as it may damage the fragile crown.

Just to make sure I don’t have a leak at the bolt probe, I used a semi wet tissue and place directly over the breech area, took a shoot and sure enough, tissue got ripped. Again this is not a deal breaker because it can be fixed with new .50 cent o rings. By the way Tedd is sending me some new o rings to test out before I make the order for a group buy for the .30 cal guys.

I cannot not comment how this gun perform yet because of my work schedule, school, kids, and honey do lists. I can only hope it will shoot as well as Art’s Matador.

The trigger is exceptionally very very good. Out of the box, it is much better than the R3 tuned that I have. First stage take off is as usual. Second stage breaks like thin glass.

The bolt…some people said it is hard to pull. I find it quite easy. You don’t pull, but use leverage. Thumb on the receiver, forefinger and middle finger on the bolt, one hand operation. It works every time. I find the bolt is very smooth out of the box. It slides back nicely without any grainy feeling. Closing the bolt also smooth. It does not have a “ramp” like feeling compared to the previous r3. I think manufacture really listen to the end user and improve on this (no kool laid or ass kissing here!).

Some people may have different view as of how a 2000 dollars air gun will work and function out of the box. Expectations from manufacture are high especially when an air gun gets sick. We are living in a not so perfect world, there are times that things will not go our way. In my option, what ever the manufactures are lacking, the comradery, the knowledge and the help we earned from this forum has been ten fold. That is more important than any DAMN air gun!

Yep! :twak:

Anyway…I’m happy that .30 is looking so good to the new owners. I hope Ed continues to produce them, as they are a very usable piece of equipment.

On another note, I hope he keeps them single shot. A time proven, effective, and pure design!

If you are shooting anything so large that you need a fast followup shot with a .30 caliber, you really need to be using a powder burner!

“It wasn’t broke! The only reason Ed “fixed” it, was because of popular demand”

Hoot –

Straight out of the box, nothing done but mounting a scope and loading pellets.

The .30s are all single shot, they are not mulitshot. I think the discussion about smoothness is with the folks with the smaller caliber multishots guns.

I can’t see any fault with results like those.

Did you do anything to the bolt or breech to “smooth” out the “feel” of the bolt?

There seems to be a difference of opinion on out of the box function, and trying to determine why/what it is, has turned out to be quite a nasty debate on a couple other threads regarding the .30

Any advice/remarks greatly appreciated!

very nice shots just out of box.

Nice shooting. I’ll take it those are the 44.75s? I am up to 3 squirrels and 21 sparrows. 😀

NICE!!!
