Hey all..
Hey guys been a member for a while now, but been lurking and reading up on things and finally got me a talon ss with condor valve ,got a 12″ .177 ,12″ .22 , 24″ .22 and a 18″ .25 barrel..I love this thing dont know what took me so long to get it ;been contemplating for years…now what I want is to be able to shoot pellets and slugs in .25 cal..do I have to get a unchoked barrel or what do I need? Any imput will be much appreciated..

Wher would one aquire one of these t j barrels?
for what ever reason, he insist on changing things with out notice. OldGoat had the exact same problem with him.

That’s what I have and the hardest part is getting him to make exactly what you want.
I sent him a drawing and a sample bullet I machined out of lead. It was exactly like the drawing. Mold showed up and the drive bands are the width the grooves are suppose to be and the grooves are the width the drive bands are suppose to be.
I asked for 70 gr .253″ bullet and it is exactly that. Just wish the drive bands were as small as the NOE.
Veril Smith makes some decent .25 molds. But your gonna pay a premium price for them! 😉
You can shoot slugs and pellets from a TJ’s .25 auto barrel. The only problem is getting .25 slugs that work. I have my .25 shooting JSB’s in the 930’s on a reg setup. I have a customers gun that shoots slugs and shoots pellets with a reg setup.
Slugs are the biggest problem for .25. I have a mold for 70 gr slugs that works good but not 100% sure on it. Shot good most of the time but would get a stray here and there. Not a lot, a couple of inches at 100 yds.
Not sure if the barrel is dirty or it is a bullet issue. It was the first 100 or so out of the mold. I need to cast some more and do a little more testing.
It can work, but not usually well. The pellets many times need a choke, and the slugs will just about always need a faster twist than the 1-16″ the pellet barrels need. So you end up with a barrel that can do different things. But none of them well.

Thanks for the replies,but I would like to shoot .25 cal slugs and pellets from the same barrel would that be possible with one of those barrels.
I’m not quite there yet on the slug shooting, but the consensuses seems to be the 257 is the sh!t. All the guys are using TJ’s barrels from Dyotat100 (Doug), or R&L, I have read here that if you order one from R&L to tell him up front to please cut the breech to accept the cast bullets. So from the 257 page it seems one needs a barrel, one hell of a hot valve, maybe a new spring, and a heavy hammer. Then you can reach out and really touch something. With Tof nailing soda cans at 400+ yards, Roach hitting them at 600+ yards, and not to mention the FPE, they are hammers, and damn accurate.

Hello. Looks like you are setup nicely 😀 I am not a slug expert and i am also going to be stepping into that soon enough but from what i have read is that you want an unchoked barrel for slug shooting. One of the experts on the slug set ups will probably respond and give you more info until then keep enjoying the gun

TJ barrel liners! Just google it! (well may-be. I dont’ think he has a site) But he has a phone. Go down to the “other guns” section here on the forum and ask. Im sure you will get an answer there! 😉
Dougs answer was right on. so the question as to whether you can shoot a slug and a pellet well from the same bbl, the answer is sort’a yes. But just not from the SAME barrel that came in the gun. So, Yes, No. 😆 No you can’t , but yes you can , if— 😉
