Hammer slap?
I attempted Hoot and Demp’s vented shroud method awhile ago but I was never able to squeeze in the scotch brite pad in there. Then yesterday a light bulb went off and I went to the fabric store and got a wooden stick. The diameter the same as the barrel. I wrapped it with steel wool about the same length of the shroud, I then use the wooden stick as a guide for moving the barrel in. The steel wool was so much easier to mold and stayed in it’s shape.

To my ears, that’s the best I’ve done. Do you stick think there’s muzzle blast or is that all hammer slap? I am not familiar with what hammer slap alone sounds like. I shot over a lake so no impact noise.

A lot of times you can find copper wool as well, I have used a lot of it around Marine environments to keeping from leaving charades behind that eventually turn into rust spots after the job is done. West Marine ??
My EXACT thought too when i first read the “article” written by Mr. Don. I, of course , thought : ” i won´t ask since the guy is more educated than i am so damn right he did go with SS wool”.

Some of the commercial silencers I see selling around here use SSSW. All of the automotive stuff is SS.

Whew! Sorry for peeking in your bucket…I saw that and said “NO he didn’t!?” I got a quote from Neil a while back…the shroud and can combo is like $340 or something like that…You have big cajones to drill into that!

The .25 cal Matador STD is hard to work with in turns of quieting it down because of the short barrel. Not much he could do to quiet it down in terms of shroud wise. I also have a 6 inch 1 1/2 inch LDC which is not enough to quiet it down so now Neil is making me a bigger LDC. Close to 2 inch in diameter and probably 6-7 inches long.
This one I gave Neil the wrong measurements so it wasn’t up to par. He was in the process of making me another one. While I waited a few people suggested I vented it. Turns out, it does make a difference.
