Q:

What’s this device?

So in anticipation of receiving my R3M I’m watching YT vids about them. Several are in Russian and I can’t understand what is being said. But I’ve seen a few vids where the guy uses a device that is placed over the muzzle and shoots a shot of air. I assume it’s measuring the velocity of air pressure, does this tell you what the reg is set at?

The black stocks are not available in the U.S. because they are only made in Russia and Ed can’t get them out for export. This is the explaination I was given. I’ve seen a few old matadors in the u.s. with black stocks. Me listed on the yellow for $1350 or so just a few weeks ago. I’m guessing he was importing them at first but is now only exporting product made in Estonia. ;(.

A black stock Edgun is as difficult to obtain as a can of quality black truck bed liner spray paint!

1) wipe down the stock with acetone or lacquer thinner.

2) hang the stock vertically at about shoulder level

3) shake the can of truck bed liner for at good two to three minutes the first time you use it, always shake it again before you do another coat

4) put it on LIGHTLY….did I say LIGHTLY? Yes, I did. You will easily see wood after the first coat, barely covered. Be certain to never stop movement of the can up and down, while going around the stock at a steady pace…the first coat is extremely light in coverage

5) wait 15 to 20 minutes and spray on the second coat, remember to shake the can did you? Put this coat on LIGHTLY as well…never stop that can moving up and down and don’t spray the same place twice just because it looks “different” from the rest of the stock…following coats will take care of this

6) wait 15 to 20 minutes to spray the third coat…again, LIGHTLY….YES LIGHTLY…..

NOW…wait overnight for these coats to dry thoroughly before you begin applying LIGHT coats again. Eventually, the stock will begin to appear fully black and slightly “pebbled” if you sprayed with constant movement and put on LIGHT coats each time

7) After the second round of three coats…again, let it dry overnight…patience will pay BIG dividends in this process

8) Apply at least three (3) applications of three LIGHT coats each, per the above instructions, keep the can moving, and don’t move up and down slowly..a moderate speed up and down, don’t linger or go slow!!!

Now…let it dry for a couple of days in a warm dry environment…longer if you have to use an unheated garage. (If you feel you “screwed up”, no sweat…remove the coats with Acetone, or lacquer thinner and start over.

Here is the secret for the best finish….Truck Bed Liner “cures” over time. Simply letting it dry isn’t going to get the hard durable finish you desire. It will take several weeks for all the coats to set up properly. Be patient….don’t try to hurry this process.

You can use the gun after the last round of coats have dried for a couple of days, just be certain to NOT set it down on a hard surface. Use a towel, gun sock, or other soft material to lay it against for at least a couple of weeks. Once fully cured, this stuff is durable!

You may also use a can of water based polyurethane spray to over-spray the truck bed liner AFTER it has cured for a couple of weeks. Apply it the same way as mentioned above, but only apply two or three light coats. Use too much and It will smooth out the “texture” of the truck bed liner finish. Apply it lightly and most of the texture remains, but the polyurethane sets up hard as a rock. This is a optional step, as the “cured” Truck Bed Liner will be almost as durable without the poly finishing coat.

If you want a black textured stock for your Edgun, this is the way to do it. Or…take the stock to a professional truck bed liner spray booth, and pay them to do it all at once. That way you are assured of a professional finish. Last I heard, it cost about $50 to have it done, depending where you live. Either way, take reasonable care of your stock and this finish will last as long as you own the gun.

PS: Use very LIGHT coats at each spraying….very light coats gets you the best “pebbled” finish!!!

Yup !
I swear by them or AT them, depending the situation. The “accident” with the flying Combro wasn´t the Combro´s fault. The crazy Norwegian with his Bazooka of an airgun ( .308 cal without a muffler) is the one to blame. The Combro lived thru the ordeal though and i just changed a sensor (cost me a hair raising sum of 1 Pounds Sterling) and now it´s like new again. Per-Ivar will Duct-tape it onto that Howizer next time around, mark my words. :2:

Ville swears by them 😉 (as long as the battery is fresh and it stays on the gun…)

Not for nothing that’s not the first edgun r3m I’ve seen with a black finish…is this offered by Ed? And if so how come we don’t have the option for this?

I was wondering that too…if you go to the Edgun website and look at the production line of the Matador R3M it list 3 different “lodgings”(stocks I believe)

“Painting (beech), impregnation (walnut), laminate” http://edgun.ru/ru/node/42

I assume he either has the painted beech or he did it himself…finish looks smooth like what was on my Daystate Airwolf Tactical, with a tacky grippy feel.

looks like an airsoft or paintball chrono. those are the ones i’ve seen that you can hold to the muzzle.

the other chrono’s are typically firearm chronographs where you definitely dont want to hold near muzzle during firing. 😀

Another thing to add to my To buy list. I have a F1 Chrono but hassle to take that thing out and setup.

He got my check on Monday and sent out on Tuesday….due to arrive this coming Tuesday. This is when I like my work schedule…I get off the mid Tues morning, and have Wed and Thurs off PLUS the kids are in school!
