Matador 25 r3m, more hst causing less fps?
Ok, after readjusting my reg, I put everything back together and decided to try some advice I was given about hst. I had issue with the adjuster being at the very last thread from the factory and I was told it should be installed at least 5mm regardless of fps. So, I took a few measurements at the old adjustment and was at 835. Ok, guess I went too far with the reg adjustment, no big deal. Lets try the 5mm adjustment thing. So, 1.0 thread pitch means that there is one thread per mm so 5mm is five revolutions. Turned it in and made another measurement.729fps. I went a little further and got the same. As I backed it out, the fps started to rise until it got to 845. What the hell, I can understand no improvement after a certain amount, but less fps? What does that’s mean? Anyhow. I’ve got to pull the reg and take it back an 1/8 of a turn. 860 or so is enough for me and I’m hoping the lower power will I’ve me a few extra shots per fill.

That´s not strange at all. Without going for long explanation on why (i leave it to OG or Ernest) that is the reason why you, after a reg tune, always back out at the HST adjuster and go in in small increments untill you reach the highest velocity. If you still wind in more tension the velocity starts to drop again. If you want your gun to shoot at , iex, 880 fps then you tune the reg so that when the fps achieved by turning in the HST adjuster peaks (before starting to drop again) you´re at the 880 fps. THAT is the reg adjustement you´re aiming at.

Yep, you are on the “back side” of the regulator. I am not sure why the reg acts that way; I just know that it does.
You must ALWAYS turn the HST screw out at least 1 full turn, 2 would be better, and then start turning the HST screw in 1/8-1/4 turn, check for speed and adjust as needed. You want the highest speed that you can get. If the highest speed is still too high, turn the reg down a little more, turn the HST screw out and try again.
If the highest speed is just a little too high, you can just turn the HST screw out a little until you get the speed that you are looking for. The problem with doing that is, you will lose a few shots per fill as the reg is still set slightly too high and the too light HST setting can’t fully open the reg up. You could also end up with a shot string that has a higher speed hump at the end of the shot string.
You would be better off turning the reg down a little more, turn the HST out and adjust again. You want your speed goal to be reached with the lowest reg and highest HST settings available.
