Q:

Chrony My New .25cal Talon SS

Here’s my first shot string with the PW at 8 with my bone stock .25cal Talon SS. Look like she’s putting out about 30 foot pounds out of the box with the PW at 8.

I’m going to lower it to 4 and see what kind of velocities I get out of her.

Talon/Talon SS

You will probably have to take the valve out and screw in the valve spring retainer and then mess with the top hat to get on the front of that curve. 12″ barrel right?

Yes, 12” .25cal.

Well your tp seems about right now, and having looked at your graph, your string actually looks pretty good. Damn your small scale fps chart!
To be honest, I wouldn’t change anything. 20 plus shots from 732 down to 700 ish is looking good! Certainly good enough to be shooting out to 70 plus yards with no significant poi change.
You be about there! :8: Try another 100 psi in the tank and see how that goes. You’re still getting a gradual drop from 1st shot. You want a little rise then a drop. A ‘bell curve’ as we call it. But I’d be happy with those numbers if I wasn’t so anal….

Yeah, my range is semi-limited, but at least I’m getting decent power out of a 12” barrel… about 50% more FPE than my .22 talon. I guess this setup will be good for shorter range stuff, and if I want a longer range gun I might be better off saving up for an Condor with a 24” barrel.

All rifles are different. You need to play with tp settings, fill pressure and pw settings. You’ll find the sweet spot as long as you have the patience….. It’s all part of the fun. Just make sure your frame, hammer , valve and breech are all good, then you can fine tune…..

What changes would you do to the tophat… Adjust it in or out?

Keep the same fill, lower the PW a little. It should flatten out that string.

PW of 2 or 3 maybe? I just set the top hat gap to .078” and redid a shot string with the PW at 6. I’ll try again another time with the PW lower.

Set the PW to 4 and did a shot string from 2750 PSI down to 2300. Does this look normal for a stock Talon?
