100 yard expectations from matador 25?
What can a good shooter do with a good scope at 100 yards with edgun 25? 2-3″ groups? Smaller? Larger? I was once a very good shot, but its been a few years and I’ve developed a little bit of a shake in my hands. I know I’m not capable of out shooting this gun so I’m just wondering what its capable of with a great set up and shooter.

My 25 cal R3 averages around 1.25” at 100 yards. Some groups are way better and some are way worse.
I have no problem doing this at 100 yards with the 25 cal R3;
The shells are 7mm Mauser casings that measure .479” wide. They were at 100 yards.
I can’t shoot 100 yard groups worth a shit but, I seem to be able to hit a dove’s head or ground squirrel’s head at 125 yards or beyond.
I don’t know if I don’t concentrate on the 100 yard groups as much as I do for a single shot or the 6 Mauser shells. I need to figure out my 100 yard group problem as I plan on going to the AOA Extreme Bench Shoot this fall.
1″ at 100m should be doable with any good rifle. More than that and the rifle is not shooting well – or the shooter is not doing his part.
Even at 940 fps with the JSB 25s it can maintain a sub 1″ overall group like these shot at 885fps.
The biggest thing to remember is even a 1 mph change in wind can affect poi up to an inch over 100 yds. It’s not the gun opening up group it’s the wind.
Most people can barely tell the difference between 1-2 mph wind and 4-5mph and when they see their groups flare open they wonder why. The biggest key to long range shooting is reading the wind.
Pic is a perfect example of how much just 1-2 mph moves group offline of spot. All shots taken on point so wind drift can be easily seen.
This was shot off bipod and shouldered in rear while prone. I kicked one high and had one go high that I felt I was on target with so I tagged that one a ???
Wanta for what it’s worth, some in the know, not me by any means will state that one should clean barrel between using different pellet manufactures. I’m guessing that different pellets peel off lead different than others along with obvious physical differences. There’s nothing in stone that an air gun has to shoot JSB’s better than brand X. You may have a gun that perhaps does like cu better but may find that you have to clean the barrel more often for it to do so. You may clean your barrel and see if it makes a difference. It’s all about trial and error to find what works best with your particular gun under your particular conditions. It’s all fun – Enjoy Buy the way .5″ – 9 shot group at 50 yards is great. My .25 no problem but my .22 cal I will more than likely have a tighter main group but will more than likely have an unexplained flyer thus opening the group up considerably where as my .25 has less flyers.
Unfortunately, I have also converted back to the jsb. I had great results with cud and hunter extremes around 500 shots into break in, but went to total shit last week. Went back to jsb and I’m now shooting well again. Just shot .5 group of 9 at 50 yards shoting across the hood of my car
Yes Wanta that was shooting 25.4 gr. JSB. Both edguns prefer JSB pellets as they were designed to by Ed and believe this has been the cons cense by most.
Can I assume that’s with the jsb 25gr pellets or something else?
Guns are more capable than most shooters but if both do their part 1″ at 100 yards is no problem. I have recently gotten several groups of eight and nine shoot groups + or – 3/4″ @ 90 yards. Don’t think I have gotten anything larger than 1 1/2″ even when conditions have been less than desirable. Using my .25 R3M with Zeiss conquest 5-25×50 HD using Harris bipod and a small bag in back. I’m a hunter first and paper shooter second. As a hunter I shoot my groups for POA and expect to see POI to be POA in order to be satisfied. this gun is new with less than two tins and barrel has yet to be cleaned. So my expectations in the future for this gun has gotten me very excited to say the least, I see far less flyers with the edgun in .25 than I have with my eddy in .22, and the .22 is superbly accurate with several thousand shots down its pipe. The greatest asset I see when shooting these groups is using a scope level to prevent canting. As to accuracy, with the .22 eddy I have no problem tacking turkeys up to 100 yards and now looking forward to hunting with the .25 next season.

I’m familiar with that weird thing too !! I kinda suck when it comes shooting groups with Airguns. I have no problem hitting pepper corn’s at 50 m though or sometimes i use empty .22LR casings laid down the rim facing out. It’s much more fun than punching holes on paper. I also have these round Chalk targets (Tarian Marks) in 3/4″ in several colors although those are too easy at 50 m. Reactive targets,whether empty casings or in OG’s case, Squirrels.
