Teflon Tape
Is there a difference in the black vs white teflon tape?
I have plenty of white but I’m seeing black used on PCP stuff.
?????

Photo black as in that it has the quality to absorb a wide and equal proportion of light spectrum?
Does your industry characterize this light absorbing quality in terms of density? Interesting….. in another lifetime I was heavily trained in light theory with a strong emphasis in subtractive colour theory…..
I got to where I came to hate tape… especially the ruby red variety.
The PSI rating makes some sense as the colored types are usually different thickness. However the use of yellow for gas services complies with identification of gas service. Seldom does domestic gas service are of anything near as much pressure . Gas delivery to residential branches rate at a medium pressure under 15psi where it connects to your gas meter and is regulated to less than 3psi. I am unsure at the pressures used for rural services that rely upon lp gas and at what way it regulated from storage tank . Likely it doesnt rely on tapered npt fittings that may require thread sealant. I am unaware of what npt fittings may be rated up to. I do know that some old school plumbers and pipefitters will voice a certain disdain for thread sealants with the opinion that properly cut matched and tapered threads wont require a sealant and that the use of dope or tape is more rather for disassembly and anti seazing.
Interesting is the picture of the dispenser that doug has of that black tape. Not the usual double inner outer ring that neve get put back together. Also Doug mentions that its stickier. I think I may recall what you are refering to as it has a gooey rubbery adhesive property to it that kinda glues the fittings together. I havent seen it on the spool ready to use but have noticed it microbore hoses and fittings in commercially assembled bulk air kits for Co2 and such stuff on the threads I have noticed it upon disassembly. Similiar to coax seal or servo tape or even somewhat like weather sealant???
Anyways, sounds like ya scored doug! Do you use gaffers tape much around the house? :7:
Yellow & Green are for higher PSI usage, 2000psi & 3000psi if i recall correctly.
It does work better than the white stuff.
I have use even the paste.
The black stuff works the best.
$$$!! I’m loosing interest fast! The white stuff meets my needs.
Thanks

Only takes 2 wraps. Seems to be more gummy and stretches good.
Haven’t had anything leak.
Looked it up. $1.95 for 1 foot and $74.95 for 50 yds.
Does it seal better?
Not sure if ninja has it made or what but it comes from ninja paintball. It is not cheap and I think it only comes in 100 yd spool.
A member on here lives real close to them and gave me some to use. It is definitely different than normal Teflon tape. I asked if I could buy some more from him and he sent me the rest of the roll.
As a plumber I have used lots of teflon tape and while I have noticed that it can be varied in thickness ,,,,, it all works the same. For instance the yellow tape is suppossed to denote use for natural gas plumbing but in actual practice I have seldom found it to be put to much use nor have found it much avail. at the pro supply houses. Only time I have seen the yellow has been on the consumer diy level. I have found a certain brand name that comes in blue and it is a tad thicker and really has a good stretchyness and cling and most importantly sealing ability.
I have never encountered black teflon. But sounds like it is very asthetically pleasing compared to thr contrasting overlap of white tape on the exposed remaining threads.
I don’t know about black, but I have some pink. It is thicker than the white.
I’ve never seen black

I use Loxeal 58-10 for threads on my pcp’s or HP systems up to 700 bar but it’s a tad hard (not impossible)to dismantle without air heating at about 200 degrees .
For 0-250 bar range the 18-10 (if i remember right) could do the trick ,.It replaces P.T.F.E. tape and dismantling easily.Just need a couple of hours for a completely dry.
