Matador Shroud/Baffle
Hey guys, I just wanted to give you a heads up, when you tighten the baffle cover to the shroud. Do not over tighten. I didn’t think I tightened it that much but the thread portion of the shroud came off and got stuck into the baffle cover.
After inspecting why the thread section came off, it looks like it was glued to the shroud. It came off cleanly. So I cleaned out the area and used epoxy. Let it stand for 5mins compressed by heavy weights and then I was unable to screw off the baffle cover.

Just a thought, now that we know that the threaded part comes off. I am wondering if we can get someone to design a 1/2-20 UNF adapter that allows us to use the OEM shroud and a nut to torque it into the breech. Even with the screw on NC shroud, you can not torque it too much because you can mess up the internals of the Carbon Fiber shroud.
I had my shroud and baffle off since I am using the NC shroud and LDC. When I am not using the OEM, I screw the the baffle cover over the lower shroud and put it away. Last night I went to unscrew it and pop it came off. I was like how the hell am i going to get that thread part out of the baffle cover now. That’s when I expoxy it together and that was strong enough to allow me to unscrew. Thanks for the pictures Demp so others can see what the different parts look like.
Here’s the order of the 5 parts and each one is its own machined piece.
The rear shroud chambers two end pieces are machined down to fit inside shroud tube as well as inside of tube like tongue and groove,they press together firmly with hand pressure and will hold in place. The front baffle and its nut tension the three parts together.
I’m assuming based off your first pic ,when you attempted to unscrew front baffle cover to get to shroud nut for complete disassembly the entire front cover,baffle assembly and threaded collar came off as one piece like in third pic.
It would make sense then that you didn’t have baffle nut tight enough to tension rear shroud.
Make sure to put a bit of antisieze on barrel threads and on front baffle cover threads so they don’t stick and you end up pulling off whole assembly again if you don’t tighten baffle but enough. 🙂
Mine stays together when broke down, I have assumed until now it was a lite press fit.
I quess the “Glue” is actually LocTite – stuff (600 series) for cylindrical fastening (made mostly for worn-out bearing housings and such) and that stuff can be nasty. Heating it up usually does it. Usually.
It can be clearly seen on Donny´s pic that the connection consists on two parts – not one.
I thought it was machined into it too Dennis but it is not. It is a hollow shroud with a little ledge for that threaded part to be glued in. It was a clean separation. Look at how the two metals differ here:
It was added after the shroud was made.
It’s a snug fit machined part but I don’t think its supposed to be glued Donny.

Mine wasn’t glued either…comes off easily. What happened to your NC shroud?

Neither one of my Eds has that thread adapter part glued or the other end adapter.

I take that back, the O-ring issues weren’t my fault!

Ahhhh. I see what you did now. If you use the antisieze on the baffle cover threads they won’t stick together.
