Q:

Stainless Steel Barrel w/2 lands???- MAC1

Has anyone bought one of these barrels (Stainless Steel BenchRest Taper Lapped – air rifle barrel) before and what do you think of them?

On a side note: I was looking into getting a .22 blank and getting fitted to a bullpup rifle. Now these barrels start at 24″ and up to 28″. Yes, that is a little long for a bullpup but I’m looking into trying something different. Has anyone ever put a barrel that is longer than 18″ on there bullpups?

Question on barrel length vs. velocity.
If you change nothing on your gun (hammer or regulator) except for barrel length such as going from 18″ to a 24″ barrel will your velocity go up? (of course you’re using the same pellets) Now, if the answer is “yes it does” could this theoretically give you more shots per fill by now lowering your regulator pressure and/or hammer strength to and decreasing the velocity approximately to the original velocity?

When pellet is shot at a given pressure it will have a rainbow chart of speed travel through the barrel, pellet will continue to increase speed till the air volume can’t increase / maintain speed due to air expiation through the barrel then it will start to slow down. So for airgun application 24″-26″ is the max speed /top of rainbow. Depending on air pressure, caliber and length of barrel will have it own speed graph through the barrel. The shorter the barrel the slower the pellet out the muzzle (med point of rainbow), so you have to increase air volume to the speed you want, that’s why short barrel has less shot count (use more air), now change to a 6″ longer barrel now you have over shot your target speed by 60+ fps back out the HSTA to lower the speed, you are not lowering the reg pressure but only the air volume (use less air) more shot count.

Here are ten five shot groups I shot Saturday from a SS Benchmark two groove 22cal barrel (installed in a USFT) that needs a little more work on the leade…

Also not shot from the best rest wither.

Smallest group (at 45 yards) is 0.2″, largest is 0.75″. The velocity was creeping up at the end (last few groups) and with a regulator I think I could easily shoot ten five shot groups all under 0.5″ at 45 yards.

Yes R3M long has a 23.5’ish barrel I knew that LOL 😳 … but it has a shrouded barrel not just a shroud.

50-80 fps increase seems ok for a 6″ barrel increase.

As a general rule, you will pick up about 10-15 fps per inch..so yes

Barrel length does not include the shroud. I have a standard Matador and the barrel is 18″, Ed doesn’t make the 177 in Long (which would be a 24″ barrel).

Some say the longer barrels are more efficient… I have not tested this directly with my latest rifles.

Good question though.

For the Benchmark barrels sometimes longer uses more air because the barrel is taper lapped, meaning the bore gets smaller, so if the bore is real tight a longer barrel might require more air to get the pellet out at a desired speed.

If you have a ‘long’ you have close to a 24″ barrel… 😉

I have not put a Benchmark barrel on my BP but I have used one on my competition rifle. The latest batch has some issues that need to be sorted out at the factory and everyone is hoping they can correct it on the next batch.

The first few batches were crazy accurate.

They come in two different OD’s. 0.70″ and 0.751″ so it would need some work to fit inside an Edgun. Typically when you machine down the OD the bore dimension changes (opens up_ so having a tight bore prior to machining is preferred. The last batch was apparently too loose of a bore.
