Assembly question on Matador R3 .25 cal
I have taken this thing apart many time before and the bolt slides on and off with ease, however now is doesn’t seem to want to fit around the barrel, almost like it is bent. Any suggestions or tips on what would cause the alignment to be off? Can I loosen/ tighten something to correct this issue? My smart ass buddy told me to get a persuader, be damned if I will use is on the gun I might use on him 😈

+1 for Anti seize ! Steel threaded to aluminium without anti-seize is asking for trouble. Same goes for Ti/Alu or Ti/steel. Once done there´ll be no problem unless you go Monkey on things. You truly should´ve known …
Regarding the accuracy issues – check so it isn´t clipping / out of center by the muffler and/or shroud junction. If you´ve bumped it to something you may have knocked the muffler enough to caise clipping. Or it can be a dirty bore as well …
Yep I always used antiseize on my airplane spark plugs in aluminum.
Antisieze people. In over 25 yrs of working with aluminum with steel bolts I have yet to see one stripped out that had antisieze used on it provided an ape didn’t over torque it.
First chance I got to disassemble my Eds I used antisieze on every single bolt.
I have heard mention of this, I think it is more of an issue with too few threads available for that size screw and associated torque that goes along with it. You are not the first, longer screw and an acorn or nyloc nut has been mentioned previously.
Is is common for the threads on the rail to strip out like that?
I was thinking of getting a longer screw and a nut, a Steel screw into aluminum in my past experience never ends well.
you can maybe try and have it helicoil repaired, there are kits down to 5mm dia.

Thanks a lot that did the trick. How ever now I have a bigger issue to deal with… The whole reason I took it apart was to clean the barrel because the gun didn’t want to hold zero. I tried 2 scopes, did a 65 shot string through the chronograph, the chronograph result we excellent so I thought for sure it was the barrel just being dirty…
Then I thought I never checked the screws that hold the rail to the gun…
The front screw is completely stripped out, I just can’t win tonight I guess. Its odd too, I have never touched those screws so I can’t figure out how them stripped out.. The scope is a pretty beefy scope but most people use them on these guns so I would think it would bother. Must be the .25cal recoil :winkn:
Anyone know how much a rail costs off hand?

Try loosening the 2 screws that hold the barrel assemble to the reg. There needs to be some space for the bolt to slide on. Once the bolt assembly is in place you can tighten the 2 screws.

The Barrel is like a mirror now clean wise, but with that little play in the front I think is what is throwing my 50+ yard shots off an inch or so.
I wish I could take a picture of the hole where the threads where it looks like it what drill out completely, no signs of treads in the hole at all.
Is the bottom part with the dove tail groove also aluminum?
I like the Longer screw and a acorn nut idea throw a lock washed in the mix as well so you don’t over torque the thing and I think I will be back in business.
I need to get her back up and running another month from now the raccoon’s come out in force to the barn and I like to hide up in the loft with the Matador and snipe the little buggers before they get to the corn pallets. Last year was a ton of fun, with the lack of a BANG! I use to hunt them with my Ruger M77/22 VBZ you would only get about 2 a night before they would head for the hills because of the noise. With the Matador you drop them in there tracks with a puff, wait 15-20 min and they would return puzzled that all the corpses where gone. One night we got 15 of them. A lot more humane then poison and a hell of a lot of fun too 😈
My buddy still can’t believe how hard my space gun hits them. If you have ever Raccoon hunted before you know some of those little buggers are tough.
