Q:

Talon for benchrest

Has anyone competed with an airforce in a benchrest comp? Thinking I may have to put my Air arms mpr to the side for the next comp and give the talon a shot.

I still have it, had it installed last fall for a bit. The “boolits” are stabilized well with the 1 in 12″ twist but I need to have the barrel worked on by my gunsmith. I had trouble seating the boolits well, took more force than I liked, so I decided to fix it. I didn’t do as well as I thought I would, so I need him to fix my “fixin”, which I should have done to start with.
My backstop was 3/4″ plywood in front of concrete blocks. The boolits punched right through the plywood and cratered the blocks, so I had to add a steel layer. They turn into thin splats which have lost at least half their weight. I set gallon jugs of water up and recovered nicely mushroomed boolits either in or just after the second jug. I decided they’re too much for my back yard and most of my shooting venues which involve starlings or pigeons and lots of things I don’t want to make holes in. I’ve toyed with selling it, but haven’t really decided to do that either. The barrel is stored in my closet for now.
No airgun barrel in my collection would stabilize the boolits, twist was just too slow. Once I did get them stabilized, I decided I didn’t need to shoot them anyway.

shooter 58 ,
what ever became of your 223 barrel project with the condor.

Thanks for the info…

5 fps spread. Now were talkin. Should see minimal impact variation

Wih a well broken in barrel you should be able to shoot 1\4″ 50 yard groups like that. And1″ to 1\2″ at 100 ,
I will have a reg set up. Eventually

I have an Altaros regulator in my Condor and it does a great job. I get 42 shots @ 42 FPE with a variation of 5 FPS or so. If I dropped the power I could get quite a few consistent shots. The reg did set me back $180 but the Condor is in effect several rifles in that I can configure it to suit the task. The reg only adds a little over an inch to LOP and took all of five minutes time to install. It has raised my confidence level for 75+ yard shots.

Thanks for the info…

Well,

The problem would be shot string peak consistency, I know the gun would be capable with peak tuning, i have achieved this kind of accuracy with very short shot strings, but the impact variation only last for less than 10 shots, without having to refill to the peak tuned pressure and take settle shots to get back into your accuracy sweet spot,

when you’re in the tuned area of peak accuracy the gun will continue to shoot good groups , but the impact will change ever so slightly with the tank pressure drop.

this make sense
