Cricket shooting 130m
Today I tried to shoot for 130m/142y and see what happen with sheet metal beer barrel. Is not overshooting on both sides but sheet metal is really rigid. I think still enough power for bunnies at that distance :biggrinn: Second think is hit it for that distance 😆
My area 🙂 it is enough for a PB rifle not only for air rifle 🙂

I still say: Go for 280 mps. Ed´s barrels aren´t anything “special” except the fact they´re polished at the factory. If he had them specially made for high speed (which they´re not but anyway) then why the myth about the 880-890 fps sweet spot on those EdGuns ?
Also – my .25 WST barrel isn´t an EG barrel but a plain Cricket barrel. It´s up to you but you´ll never know until you try. Not saying that going for 280-285 will with 100% certainty make your gun shoot tighter than it does now but there´s a great possibility it will. The best one has ever tried is the best one knows , right ? :winkn:
Every gun is different and what works in my friends Cricket or EdGun doesn´t mean it will work on mine.
🙄 I ´m not sure if kalibrgun has same specification for barrels than edgun… I think ED had special requested L&W barrel for higher speed.
Anyway today I have little time but I check only 2 magazines one for 274mps and second slower 262mps and according briefly checking I have better groups with the slower speed than 274mps. Maybe barrel doesn’t like higher speed…
O.K. As said both my EdGun´s (.22 cal) worked best at 285 mps, plus minus , and coincidentally Ed himself sets them – or at least he did back in the day – at between 280-285 mps with 18gr Exacts and the provided test target was shot at those speeds.
My .25 cal WST also shoots at its best at 280-283 mps with 25gr JSB Kings. I´ve tried all kinds of velocities between 255 – 300 mps with all three of those guns and always ended up at 280 – 285 mps.
This tells me one thing : The 880-890 fps “golden rule” is Hogwash, at least with those Rifles it is. Why not raise the Reg pressure a little and try 280-285 on yours ??
Ok Ville thanks again. Next time I will measure CTC. POI shift due to pressure changes is fixed according your hints, barrel lapped too 🙂 Now I try to increase speed to 272mps or so ??!! 280mps is impossible get from my cricket. I have regulator set to 123bar
Most measure center to center and not outside to outside. Do yourself a favor and try a bit higher velocity. The worse thing that can happen is there will be no improvement. None of my BP´s thus far – both .22 EG´s and my WST .25 – shot at their best at under 280 mps. + – 285 mps has been best for them all so i don´t buy that 880-890 fps myth at all. :ugeekn:

Try a bit higher / lower velocity. BTW – you measure your groups different way than most. 😯

Nice shooting octavious! Yes you can easily take a rabbit with the energy left at this distance as long as its a head or chest shot. What kind/size of rabbits do you hunt there?

Octavius, at that range you still should be hitting the target with 12.76 FPE more than enough to kill most small game. That’s if you still get good shot placement. Hell of a shot, though.
I was kind of hoping to see a good looking girl holding the gun out in the country. 😀

I finally got a 100 yd lane cleared and my wife and I tried our luck at 100 yds for the first time with my .25 cal Cricket Rifle.
We also tried our .177 M-rod at that distance too. She smoked me with her M-Rod, and even beat me with my Cricket.
Haven’t been on here in a while…..going to try to load pics. We stuck some 3 inch “Shoot-n-C” targets on the end of a couple of soup cans Saturday evening right before dark and that was our very first experience at 100 yds. Her can on the left, and my can on the right.
Then Sunday evening we shot the M-Rod first and the Cricket second at the shoot-n-c targets.
Her’s are the middle groups and mine are the right side groups. I really sucked with the M-Rod? Cant see worth a fart with 12 power. My Hawke on the Cricket was set at 24 power.
For got to mention. We both emptied a 10 round mag at each target with the M-Rod and a 12 round mag with the Cricket
