Q:

Altaros regulator – 65 shot, shot string!

Holy smokes, this shot string is unreal on a Condor .25 w/ an “Altaros” regulator. Me likey! see it here: http://talonairgun.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=28996

I have no idea what I am doing in this area, but I would like to benefit from a Altaros Reg, and increase the shot count and reduce the spread on my Talondor (Talon SS frame, .25 cal, hi-flo tank, TT adjustable top hat, and TT 95 gram condor hammer).

Here is the link to view the Altaros Reg mentioned in forum thread provided above http://www.altaros.cz/regulators/gunpower-airforce-condore/

My question is… is this regulator mod easily accomplished, and worth the time and effort? I have not found extensive information on this mod being done, so I am a little hesitant since my astute colleagues on this forum having not jumped all over this. I also don’t see where Tony offers any custom regulator work on his list of services, and this makes me a little leary too (If he doesn’t offer it, then why would I want it?)

Would enjoy seeing a constructive thread on pro’s, con’s, and problems encountered if one is to pursue a regulator on an Airforce gun. Thank you.

can any1 tell me how many turns from fully shut to set at roughly 130bar? my daughter fiddling with it with turning it clockwise all the way before i had a chance installing it. i prefer not to waste air just to try to set it. cheers

I put a Altaros reg on my .25 Condor SS. When I did it went form shooting at about 910 fps to 865 (set at about 2200 psi). My condor had not other upgrades. The power wheel made no difference at all in fps until the high settings where it actually lost velocity. It was shooting consistent and accurate though, always with in 3 fps. I wanted a little more velocity though, but was skeptical I could get it with out a pre-chamber (or raising the psi which I didn’t really want to do), thinking that not enough volume was the reason the power wheel made no difference, but I ordered a TT tophat to give it a try and it jumped to 905 fps! For me that is good enough. I am very happy with the reg, does its job well. It was easy to install as long as you can get the valve out of your bottle. It also took me several fills to get the regulator at the desired psi. I also have a .22 Talon SS with the reg. and I am also very happy with it. If you have any more questions I would be happy to answer. I don’t know how many shots per fill I am getting as I have not counted, but I know for sure that it is not 60. Maybe I am getting 30.

I have 4 of Altaros’s regs. 2 on AF guns and 2 on Air Arms guns. They all perform well. I’m planning another for a AT44.

I used both of the regs on the AF guns on Talons where power took a back seat to shot count. I have my 22 with a 24 inch barrel running around 28fpe for well over a hundred shots and my 17 cal on an 18 inch barrel set at 20fpe for a gazillion shots.

I’ve no experience on using one on a Condor… I wouldnt mind doing it, but very well could drop power, but my experience with my Condor is that I needed to drop power anyway to shoot most normal .25 pellets. Honestly, for the Condor, I prefer what I have…which is one of Tony’s top hats with the interchangeable inserts. I can use the mid sized insert for around 50fpe with medium heavy 25 pellets or run it wide open and use big slugs for 113fpe.

Can anyone comment on this Altaros Regulator? Hoping to start a discussion on this modification, and determine if it is worth investing in. Thank you.

I may be COMPLETLEY off here, but I thought I read somewhere the Altaros Regulator alleviated the need for a pre chamber through some kind of work-a-round they incorporated?

the only real problem i ran into when looking to reg my talonp was finding someone to make a large pre-chamber to get the velocity back up.
