What do you mean? Looking at where the screws are, and the description of the clamp length, It looks like the tri rail would work.
If you cut it down to even with the front rail and slotted it, it should work.
That was the original idea that I was going to go with, but since this is going to be a backpack, take down, “as small as I can get it” rifle (carbine?) The scope I’m planning on using uses dovetail (Beeman SS2 4×21 AO). I suppose I could have a piece made… I was just hoping that the tri-rail would work because it’s a readily had piece. I measured it out, it would work… I think… I just wondered what you guys thought.
I myself would go with a length of picatinny rail. I have seen it in 16 inch lengths. Cut it to the length you want, epoxy it down and then drill and tap it to make sure it stays.
Here are some up to 12 inch lengths.

Now if you don’t mind cutting your own slots, here is some up to 32 inches.
Here’s a question: I’m looking at my old style talon frame, and wouldn’t I be able to just have the higher scope rail milled down flat, in line with that lower groove (which is the lower body rail), and just use a tri-rail?? Still going to epoxy it in place, but was just wondering if this would work… it would be far cheaper, and faster. Thoughts?
Damn Doug, I’m sorry to hear that! I’ll have to check mine w/a stock bushing and or breech… That’s a really good idea. Thanks for the info about the breech/knob and cutting the slot in the frame! Thanks to all for the help!
If you use low rings the scope is pretty low.
The breech can be reused. You need to put a set screw in the old hole with some loctite. Just screw it in and don’t bottom it out so you don’t push on the bottom of the hole. You need to cut the slot and notch to determine where to drill the hole for the knob.
The blank frame of mine is done. Tagdagger said his is fine and a stock bushing fits in his nice. I must have got a bad one. I I don’t have the time to waste on it. If it was round I would do it but I’m just calling it a loss.
I was hoping to just fill it with an epoxy, after masking off the rest of the rifle… I don’t really want to go to that extreme (and $$$) for a 12 fpe pack gun… Doug! Anything new about those raw extrusions??? Are they workable? (Oh man I hope so!!)
I’ll probably forgo filling that slot and just do up an M1913 rail for the thing and slap it on there with a few screws and some bedding compound to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere… Done.
Now, about the breech- I should be able to just drill/tap a hole 90* to the side for the breech knob, right? nothing fancy? I don’t need a custom made breech do I?
You made another one? Woo-Hoo! That has to stiffen up these flexible frames! 😀
Did yo ever find a type of tube that would work rather than having to mill from billet?
Knife
Most of them do not fill in the slot. Dyotat however made a real nice piece that not only covers the old slot, but stiffens the frame. You can only load from the right side, but hey.
I’ve tried searching about this, and I can’t find a definitive answer. For those that have already lowered your scope rails, did you fill in the old breech knob slot? If so, how did you do it, what did you use?
As far as the breech is concerned, could I re-use the factory breech, but drill a hole 90* to the right (for right hand bolt) and use it that way? I’m not adding a heavy hammer or anything to this build…
To remove the stock scope rail easiest way is just strip the frame and pop it on a milling bench. Most machine shops could do it for you. May be easiest just to try a local one. There are a few US guys on this forum who have done similar work so you could try sending them a PM. Sadly all the guys I know are based outside the US.
To mount a rail in its place you just can simply bolt on something the AF accessory rail or similar or one of the many dovetail to weaver rails out there.
To make the talon a side cocker is simple. Just make a slit like the top one in the side. Again your local shop could do it with no problems. Most people just do it DIY though. Then redrill breach block to have the handle on the side.
Then you end up with something like this

well see, we’re saying the same thing!! 😆 That is exactly What I want to do: Shave the stock scope rail down to the lower dovetail, and clamp on that tri-rail using epoxy so it’s perminant. Of course there’s also the side slot… well, you’ve just confirmed that using the tri-rail will in fact work. Excellent!! 😈
