Q:

MagnetoSpeed V3 Chronograph

I’ve had the chance to put a 200 or so shots over the latest MagnetoSpeed unit. On the whole, it works quite well.

The main attraction is the barrel mount “bayonet” speed sensor arrangement. This allows quite a bit of freedom in placing shots, because it’s not possible to mis-aim and shoot the chrony.

Test were conducted with an AF Condor SS with both a “big” tank (TTTA, TTTH) and a “little” tank (AF micro-meter tank). Ammo varied from JSB 25 gr to RWS 14 gr, with a few weights in between. Muzzle velocities varied from 930 to 500 fps.

The unit pretty much works as advertised, with one quirk. The quirk is that after using any of the data handling functions, such as “save series,” I needed to power cycle the unit to avoid mis-reads on lower velocity shots. After cycling the power, the unit works properly. When I talked to Ivan at MagnetoSpeed, he seemed aware of this. He mentioned that there’s a new release of firmware coming soon.

I’ll post photos of the setup on a Condor SS at the next opportunity.
