Q:

Bipods-Harris & Atlas?

I own several Harris bipods that I use often. Never owned an Atlas- Is the Atlas worth the difference in price?
Thanks!

I have both, and they each have their pluses and minuses. The Atlas is lighter and more versatile, and gives the impression of higher quality materials and workmanship. The Atlas can pan over the legs (i.e. rotate freely side to side); you can’t do that with the Harris. The Atlas has a quick-release version for picatinny rails, which is a lot easier to deal with that the Harris’ stud mount. But there is some front/back wiggle in the Atlas leg locks, which can be an issue with lighter guns (it doesn’t show up much with a heavy gun loading it). It’s a bit slower to deploy the legs on the Atlas because you have to depress the locking button. The Harris is stiffer, and with a pod lock is easier to adjust cant (on the S versions where it is adjustable). But the Harris is heavier, clumsier and uglier. Both work very well for most regular uses, the Atlas has some features that make it more usable on difficult terrain.

I´m using harris style bipod 6-9″ is very good for most applications…

I’ve owned both. I don’t use the Atlas because I don’t need the large number of variations of height, angle, swivel, degrees of “cant”, etc, etc…

A bi-pod, to me, is nothing more than a pop down device to control muzzle movement, and to permit the muzzle height to be the same each time it’s shot.

To each his own…..It’s like owning a car that goes forward, backward, sideways, up, and down. Functions that one simply doesn’t normally use, or need.

Now that I have both, I like the Atlas more. The Harris is very good but the Atlas is more robust and more flexible.
Now the price difference us huge (3x), so this become somewhat of a personal budget issue. I wanted the perfect setup for my cricket so I took the hit.

P.S. Go Ivery Coast! 2 goals while writing this 🙂
