Talon SS .308 bigbore kit testing on pigeons

What I would really, really, really, REALLY like to see is a target showing a 10 shot group of those JSB’s out of the 12 inch barrel at 50 yards. I have been wanting to set my Talon SS up with one of the .308 kits, but I have been very leery of doing such as I have no real idea how well the .308 barrel is going to shoot those things. Before I drop those kind of bucks, I need to see what it can do.

Skin back breasts. Cut breasts from bone. Wrap with bacon. Broil in oven. Enjoy.

I am aware of such. It is just that over the years I became a head shot kind of dude. I would rather miss than wound. It is like I said, a .22 or .25 is all I need for tree rats and I can easily get the grouping and power I desire from them at the ranges I need for that. I want the higher power for the occasional larger critter such as turkey or groundhog or even coyote. I don’t need .30 for doves. .177 will do just fine for them, if I can get them to quit bobbing that damn head around for a moment.
I was thinking of a 16″ barrel in my Talon SS. That will leave me a little room to take the edge off of the report without lengthening it. I do not need it to be silent, but would like to not have to use ear plugs. That should also give me a bit more velocity and hopefully some more accuracy.
I too would like to see some groups. This is pretty amazing. I had to re-read when it said “8” barrel. I have always been interested in finding the shortest barrel length (no matter what caliber) where accuracy potential is not adversely affected. I’m sure the short barrels in the heavy “big bore” sizes have reached their limit at 50 or so yards. It would be cool if there was some day a chart that laid out each barrel length, with each caliber, each pellet/bullet weight, and each optimum fps for a wide range of ranges for the air force line of rifles .
JSB’s ooolala. I bet they are nice, and a 50 gr. heavier then a typical 22 round.
That would be really nice if you could do that as I am really wanting to go to .30, but hitting a tree rat in the head at 50 yards requires a pretty tight grouping. I know .22 and .25 will do it, but .30 will give me a bit more umph for bigger critters when I need it.

Actually that tells me a lot. Using an 8″ barrel and a standing rest, you made a group that was about 1.5″ at 50 yards. There is a very good chance that with a 16″ barrel on a bench rest the group could easily be less than 1″, maybe even 1 MOA. Not too shabby. Thanks!
