Accuracy in the toilet
I had a pretty frustrating day with my Condor SS (.25 shooting JSB Kings). I woke up and the weather was nice, and basically no wind so I decided it would be a good day for some target practice/sighting in. The problem being it is grouping horribly, I am talking nearly 2″ groups at 55 yards. I don’t claim to be the best marksman, but I am not that bad. I had it on a chrono, and was averaging about 905 FPS with good consistency. So I did the following:
1. made sure barrel set screws were snug.
2. got and installed 90 durameter o-rings in the breech.
3. started to think maybe it was shooting to fast so I put a restrictor in the TT top hat. That dropped it to 795 fps and I then shot 14 shots. Those 14 shots were spread out over 3″! Ridiculous, no wonder I have been missing Starlings I thought I had a good bead on (well I am using a scope so not really a bead on them.)
4. I had looked a couple of time to see if there was any sign of the pellets clipping and saw nothing, but finally I took out those inserts (what ever AF calls them), and the end cap and shot a 1″ 5 shot group, not great but improved. Put the end cap back on and put 6 shots in 1″, but a seventh (not necessarily the seventh on I shot) made it a 1 3/4″ group.
So are my pellets clipping? Are they clipping the end cap or those inserts? I have looked over everything well and I can’t see where the pellets might be clipping.
Assuming my pellets are clipping what do I do about it? Just drill a bigger hole in the end cap and inserts? How big should I make the hole?
I have not ever tried any other pellets in the gun. I guess I should also try Kodiak’s and Crossman Premiers.
One last variable to add to the equation, the first two tins of JSB that I put through the gun seemed to shoot OK, not great, but OK, 1″ groups a 55 yards. I then got some new tins and it seems like things got worse, however I can’t be sure of that because there was quite a long time in there that I did not put the gun on targets, just shot at Starlings.
I would appreciate any input on what you think my next step should be, I definitely did not put the money that I have put into this gun to shoot 1 1/2″ to 2″ groups.

From my experience, that is a clipping issue.
I don’t think I have ever told the story of having one .177 baffle in a .25 CSS….not pretty.
Inspect every baffle and end cap for any signs of clipping, de burr every baffle hole.
Don’t be afraid to open them all by a couple thousandths.
Also the newer Kings have a thicker skirt. A slight difference in weight wont necessarily create a vertical string.
Stick with one tin of pellets try lubed and unlubed.
Good Luck,
Tony
