Q:

55yrd group

Hi guys,
Last weekend I decided to see what my rifle would do at 55yrds, I’ve tried this a few months ago but conditions were quite windy and I wasn’t too impressed with the groupings-around 1″ at that distance. Since then it was bugging me knowing that my rifle should give much better groups.
Now its common knowledge that you don’t get really small groups consistantly at 110yrds (100m) with pellets but I must admit I’ve never so many sub1″ groups @ 100m as I’ve had since fitting a FX smooth twist barrel. Accuracy is ridiculous, with my rifle as it is you can litterally put pellet after pellet through the same hole at 55yrds as in the pic below. The single pellet(shot) below the group was my aiming point.
Man I love this rifle.

What did AoA say the price was going to be for a .30 blank?

AoA is the only place that sells FX anything. As far as I know, FX hasn’t released .30 blanks as of yet. Call AoA to see whats up….

Called them today, FX has released the .30 blanks, just hasn’t shown up at AOA yet.
Order a .22 and .25 barrel while I was at it… :biggrinn:

Is AOA the only place ST blanks are available? Does FX have a 2
.30 released?

Very impressive. But I’m not sure I would be able to “play my part” well enough to see the benefit of your fx barrel.

Just waiting on Tony’s conversion. That’s if I don’t go with Eldy’s .457.

I would love to see those results! I only shoot JSB 18.1’s because they do so damn well. Any others I’ve tried only work at specific ranges and PSI.

You mean Tony’s .30 conversion or you’re putting together a .30 conversion w/a ST barrel? I would be interested in a ST .30 barrel for a AF rifle too… Hmmm… I’m waiting to do the .30 conversion from Tony… but when funds allow, I’ll also have a ST .30 (whenever those will be available) and a TJ .30 barrel made up so that they’ll drop in. Then we can see how the accuracy looks in an AF with 3 different .30 barrels…

I’m patiently waiting on the .30 conversion.

Those ST blanks are really expensive for what they are… (I should know I’ve misplaced one… 🙄 ) I would be interested in what a .30 ST can do in an AF. Has anyone heard anything about when they’re going to be available?

I have a genuine Fx smooth twist barrel in my Condor. The barrel gets turned down in a lathe at the breach and then bushes are fitted to secure the barrel in the frame.

I’m curious, you can fit an FX smooth Twist in a Condor? Is there any customization to be done, or have I misunderstood and you are comparing an FX rifle with Smooth Twist to the AF AG? Anyway, sounds interesting.

I am very happy with it, my previous barrel shot 18gr Jsb’s very well but that was all I could use in it. Nothing else worked. For hunting in short to mid ranges +- 55yrds that H&N 21grs, Jsb 25gr and 18gr Jsbs all work well in the smooth twist barrel but the further you go-nothing beats the 18grs.

It sounds like a smooth twist is a good investment.
