Air Force cocking assembly modification.

Has anyone modified the Air Force cocking assembly to go out the right instead of up? Seems that would be more practical.

That’s great info! I was focusing my concern of the wrong area. If that’s the case, what are your recommendations on “slinging” the gun ? On a long day of hunting, that thing is getting bounced around a lot. Would you recommend attaching to a different area rather than the “butt” of the gun to avoid un-do torque on the end of the bottle? I run a spin lock and I’m sure ( maybe I’m wrong) that the spin lock collar is just another weak spot in the system.

No need to worry. That area of the frame is not issue.

Where the bottle mounts to the frame is the area you need to be aware of. Do not put undue pressure there and it will be fine.

Beautiful work my friend! Would you be interested in fabricating on of those cover pieces for me? If so, what would you charge? I have been wanting to do a “side cock” mod for quite some time but my main fear is generating more frame flex. I have a Talon frame!

Yup! Actually a fairly simple modification with the proper metal working skills. Once the bolt slot is machined into the frame, the breech knob needs to be repositioned 90 degrees also. Care must be taken to completely de-burr the frame internals after machining to prevent damage to the breech and the hammer bushings.
Another thing to take into account is that by machining a second “slot” in the frame, you will be further weakening the most flexible section of the frame. Many who have done this modification have actually had the original slot filled in and others have built reinforcement pieces over the frame in this area.
This is the next thing on MY “to do” list!
