Q:

.257 Condor Valve? (Plans, Advice needed!)

Hi everyone, The longrange itch started on me si im about to make a .257 Condor conversion. I have a 22.5inch 1:9 twist barrel installed so i need advice on how to mod the valve to make those 80-100 grain bricks go over 900fps… Ive read a lot, but nobody seems to agree… Any blueprints, measures or drawings of a custom Valve would be great!!!

Hello guys,
I am interesting to make one valve for me.
If you can please send me the plan and the spring spec’s to construct one.
I hope in your goodwill guys. :winkn:

I can send you a drawing if you want to make one. Can tell you the spring spec’s also

That, would be PURE GOLD to me!!! xeriotti@gmail.com

I dont mind losing some FPS if i can be able to stabilize bullets properly, 1:9 POLIGONAL twist rate is my only option anyways!!!

About the Valve…. I listen your advice. Whats your setups???

Yeah but he is talking 1-9 and that is going to eat up some serious fps.

For what it is worth Doug, my 21″ Bbl. that you and Tedd did up for me will hit 930 with the full size 257420, Or was that with the 80 now. Well, one of the two. Man old age is a—What was I saying???

A boat tail wont’ do you any good until you get above the speed of sound. And even then, it must remain well above it for a long flight. If not, the bullet is going to drop back down to below sub-sonic. And that accuracy will take a dump! Sadly, this is something we don’t have the tech. to do yet. One day! 😉

I know going from a 1-14 to a 1-10 is a loss of about 50 fps.

Do you plan on making a valve?

The rifling on the 1:9 barrel is poligonal (much less drag than a conventional rifled barrel, guess it will compensate a bit the fast twist fps loss) Im really interested on your valve, hammer and hammerspring setup you achieve that speed with 80 grains….

When i got clear the powerplant setup ill need advice to design a bullet mold too… Think ill size down a 257420 Lyman bullet, to borematch my gun and replacing the gascheck housing in the tail for a boat-tail… Wonder if making it round nose will be an improvement over the original flat point…

The idea is to build a long range plinking rig.

I don’t know if you will be able to with what you have and the size you want to shoot. 1-9 twist is going to take away 50-60 fps and you only have a 22.5″ barrel.

With 1-14 twist you might be able to hit 900 fps with 80 gr 22.5″ barrel. I don’t remember what mine shoots 85 gr at, maybe 1050 fps. But I have 32″ 1-14.
