Q:

Barrel – free floating?

A quick question for Edgun owners, how is the barrel attached to the rail supports? Is it free floating, tight fit or is there an o-ring?

Ya, Agreed, kinda, Compared to an old 2.5, P-12 or Cricket and it is more of a free floating design but you have to think of the barrel, shroud, and baffles as one unit with the breech in that case. The scope rail is still dangling off the top while centering with that (1) o-ring in the front adapter bushing at the rear of the shrouding.

In theory if you pulled that o-ring out and it shot the same or more repeatable from de-attaching the scope rail, then it is hampering performance. I would be curious to experiment, if it shot worse then it is certainly stabilizing off the barrel and makes you wonder what Ed’s barrel could do real free floated.

The barrel is held under tension from the action to the end of the shroud.
In order to remove the baffles you need to unscrew the tension nut off the end of the barrel.
Once that nut is removed then the barrel is free floating from the action to it’s business end.

There is no free float what so ever when the baffles insert is screwed to the end of the barrel.

Free float through the rear area and O-ring centered in the front. Wierd setup but it seems to work ok. The tensioning on the barrel must help overcome having the rail riding on the barrel.
