Q:

I got to test out the S400 SSP from mrodair

I just got a couple of the new SPA S400 pistols. One in .177 and one in .22. I haven’t had the opportunity to critique the .22 as I can’t find my light pistol pellets.

10 shots 10 meters under a dime.

Trigger is nice too. Lyman showed it to be 14oz.

The .177 though has proven to be a pretty decent shooter for someone that may want a practice, target, or just a plinkin’ gun.

Single stroke pneumatic, it’s shooting 8g’s at about 365. A 5 shot chrony run had it at a SD of something like 1.4.

Video to follow.

Hi guys,

Someone else who has a gun at home this S400? If so, please your comments on operation and maintenance.

Thank you in advance

Thanks, Dave. Love to see all of your videos that are so true. no worries about the length.

Michael gave me the link http://anotherairgunblog.blogspot.com/2009/02/derricks-on-beeman-p17-overhaul-part-1.html
that’s same trigger group like beeman p- 17. I just followed it and put it back now.
But I found another issue. I forgot how deep the piston should be in the air tube. I just keep trying to play with it. I don’t know what is the best length for the piston remaining in the air tube.

Charlie I haven’t taken the trigger apart. I did disable the safety. It’s the pin just above the trigger itself. I wanted to see if I could put it back just in case i needed to. It’s not easy. I had to put a .050″ allen wrench in the hole to align the spring then use it to guide the pin back in.

I’ll be talking with Mike Sunday or Monday and I’ll ask him about an exploded view or something that can help get it back together. I’ve got a couple of questions about the M10 I’ve got coming. ( was it OK to mention that?? 😳 )

Mine took at least 100 cocking cycles to smooth up the piston. I just kept wiping the piston and keeping a dab of silicone oil on it. Cocks much better now.

I’m going to try some of the H&N hobby wadcutters in 11.9

I will keep you updated…

That looks like an all growed up and buffed P-17.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for sharing the video.

Have you ever disassembled the trigger group? I got s400 .22 and it’s fun to shoot. but I tried to clean it up. I disassembled the trigger group and couldn’t put them back. There is no instruction in the package.

Thanks again.

I shoot crossman 14.3 .22 at 250 fps. what light pellets are you going to test?

Thanks!

Sorry it was so long. I’ve been checking the analytic of the video and the watch time is way less than the video.

The upcoming video will be much shorter.

I’m going to do like Paul Capello does in his videos and bang bang bang on the shots for the chrony and accuracy. No dwell time. Going to try to keep it under 5 minutes.

I was sold on the video!!

One thing it definitely has going for it is it does not have those glowy thingy sights. It looks to be a real good plinker.

PM inbound.

Not sure but I’ve got some falcons if you wanna try em?

Thanks for the suggestion Lead. I was considering some of the light H&N’s. You think the 14g aren’t too heavy?

Going to try the aa falcons ?

And here is the video.

If you think that this gun has merit and if anyone “dare” link it on one of the other forums please feel free. :winkn:

I ordered some .22 pellets today that would be light enough for the .22 test. I’ll get those results posted next week.
