Q:

"NEW" OLD AIRFORCE RIFLE

Greetings all.

I have the opportunity to buy a unused 2001 Talon SS. According to the seller the gun has never been fired and has sat in the box for the past 13 years.

I spoke to Airforce and they could still service it, but no warranty since I am not the original owner.

What do you think? Is it worth the risk? I am concerned that I might be buying a money pit and would be better served buying a new one. To make the old gun more appealing it comes with an AF pump, bipod, fill adapters and open sites.

Thanks for your input.

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I ended up passing for the time being. It has the old plastic bushings so it only has two of the barrel set screws. I assume someone could probably drill the frame for the additional holes, but that just starts eating into the savings. Then a new barrel on top of that… I will just keep an eye on the classifieds.

Again, thanks for the info everyone.

Bruce

I would pass on it unless it is really cheap.

Those older rifles had delrin bushings, and it might not have a Lothar Walther barrel.

If you can get it cheap…do it.

Just know you might have to put in a new barrel if it has one of the old non LW.

If the price is a good bit below what a new one would cost, I would recommend buying it. Even if you were afraid to do such yourself and had to send it in and have all of the seals replaced, it would be worth it. If you read around here it sounds like most people are not that crazy about the new trigger assemblies. That in itself is worth something. There are also several people clambering for “old” Talon, TSS and Condor frames and air rifles. If I did not already have a very old Talon SS, I would be also.

Go for it. They are probably better quality yhan the ones being made now.

The Talon is the KISS rifle, Keep It Stupid Simple.

By the old type there is only one part who hold the pressure, that’s the valve in the bottle.
And the are two simple O-rings ( BS011) in the breech, even when they are wear out, the rifle will shoot.

With a simple set hex keys you can dismantle the whole rifle, see all the info. about it on this forum all very basic.

good luck.
