Q:

Chronographs: Indoor Lighting

I have a Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital chronograph and wanted to use it for some indoor testing. I do not have the indoor lighting kit.

I have read of others who have used LED lights or LED light strings for indoor lighting. I’ve only seen this on other brand models. I do have some white LED light strings that I used for RC helicopters.

Anyone know if white LEDs will work as a light source, for this chronograph? I don’t know what frequency of light these are or what frequency of light is required.

Anyone know for sure?

Thanks,

I just use a single incandescent lamp one meter above the sensors. It works without any problem.

Turn the pw down, your getting to much deviation.

I’ll do another run with lower power. It’s at about a setting of 9 right now. I’m not sure what you mean though. Deviation in velocity? Seems pretty linear to me. Maybe I don’t understand what you are getting at.

Setup the chrono and fired a few in my Condor SS, .22 caliber.

Definitely need to work on trigger control. 🙂

Yeah it works ok. Did another test today, with white LEDs, with everything lined up and it worked fine. Fired 14 pellets, for this test.

Gun: TalonP, with shroud
Power: 8
Pellets: JSB Exact 25.39gr

TalonP tank was filled to 3000 and dropped to about 2900+ when I turned off the main valve. I fired one empty chamber, before beginning.

These are the results:

Shot order was upper left, upper right, lower left, lower right, then center. I have no idea how the pressure went, with this test. I guess I should get one of those spin-loc tanks. 😉 I was rushing a little at the center target. I was more interested in the speed, than the placement. Next time I’ll focus on both. 😉

I bought the blue LED lights at Harbor Freight. They work on the CE chrono.

I have White, Blue, Green and Red LED lights, from another project. Hooked up the white and they seemed to work but the few shots I tested weren’t always detected. Was getting a little over 800fps, with the JSR pellets and the TalonP. I think I might not have been shooting right over the sensor and too high. Didn’t want to take any chances of striking the unit. I’m going to try again tonight, and focus on dead center over the slots.

I tried the LED thing and the chrono worked BUT was reading in the 500’s indoors with the lights and 980’s outside. Can’t beat Mother Natures natural sunlight.

Sounds like it didn’t work. 😉

I’m going to test it tonight I guess. I have some white LED strings. They have sticky back and can run right along the difuser. Just don’t know if the freq is right. They are definitely plenty bright.
