Aeon Scopes?
Does anybody have any idea if Aeon scopes are any good? The 6-24X50 on Wild West’s site gets good reviews, and has some good looking crosshair configurations, and the price is fantastic. I plan to replace my Hawke 6-24X50 with the Hawke 6.5-20X42 Sidewinder to get the 1/2 mil dot crosshair and just upgrade to what I assume are better optics, but would consider the Aeon if they are OK. Thanks Awny. I just hope I don’t regret being a cheap bastard by not ponying the Hawke, which was what I planned to do before seeing the WWAG sale on Aeon scopes :smilen:

Its a good buy, congrats. I have my Aeon on my Daystate for now so its in use.
Yes I broke the front flip cap by mistake. Just replace them with Buttler Creek covers which you can buy relatively cheap from Amazon or other places. Make sure you get the right size.

Okay… I just did a very un-scientific test of Aeon 6-24×50 and it seems very sharp with good coating, although there still is a small amount of chromatic aberration (the color fringing you see around a dark object against a lighter background), but it is VERY slight. The only scope I have on hand to compare it to is a Vortex 4-12X40 Diamondback, which I have always felt was very bright and sharp. The Aeon is much sharper at 12x that the Vortex. I measured out a target at 20 yards and both focused correctly to 20 yards according to the scale on the scopes. I have no doubt that the Hawke 6.5-20×40 is a better scope, as Awny suggested, but I paid half the price. My Cricket is off at Ernest’s to be tuned (I think I had the barrel shift due caused by the changing air pressure in the tube as you shoot several mags) so I don’t have an appropriate gun to test the scope on right now, but I’ll get to that in a few weeks when the Cricket comes back. What I can tell for now is that the Aeon has precise turret clicks, focuses smoothly and correctly, has good coating, comes with a lens shade, weighs 2 ounces less that the Hawke, and I like the Field Target Reticule. Also comes with crappy flip caps 👿

It is a 30mm scope. Mine just showed up and it looks really nice, the turrets have nice click-stops, smooth focus, etc. Unfortunately it is pitch black outside so I can’t tell how the optics are. Someone asked earlier how much it weigh – since that info isn’t on WWAG’s site – and according to our kitchen scale it weighs 720 grams with the lens shade on, but W/O the lens caps. The lens caps are the same cheap pieces of crap that came with my Hawke 6-24×50 and will break in a week I bet. I’ll report in tomorrow when I get a chance to look through it in daylight.
Is the Aron 6x24x50 a one inch scope or a 30 mm scope???
If its 30 mm I am just about to pull the trigger on one,,

I have a Nikon pro staff 4x12x40 with a mill dot rectical,its 4 up 4 down,but the glass is great,the cost is about 220.00 and only weighs 13 onces,alex
Must be a reason they don’t advertise the weights. Must be HEAVY!

Thanks for the info. I’m tempted to go ahead and buy the Aeon to take advantage of the sale price and to just check it out. It’s abut half the price of the Hawke. I can always return it I guess.

I have both the Hawke SW 6.5-20×42 and Aeon 6-24×50.
I like the optics on the Hawke more despite being 42mm vs 50mm.
The Aeon is slightly lighter despite looking bulkier.
The Hawke has illuminated mildots but I don’t care about those.
The mil-dot span on the Aeon is small which I do not like.
Both are very good for the price. My cricket came with the Aeon from WWAG and I recently replaced with the Hawke so this tells you which one I prefer, but I already had the Hawke prior to the gun so it was not an extra purchase. I am considering moving to swfa ss 3-15 but have not made the final decision yet.

I bought the 6-24×50 with my compact cricket and it seems like a good scope. The reticle spacing isn’t as tight as the hawke 1/2mildot on my hawke panorama which is a 10x Mildot reticle. I’m still switching them around to see which one I like better. My panorama is light and I like the reticle but I like the aeon because it’s bigger with a good glass and has side focus.

Its sturdy and I have not heard of people complaining of their Aeon scopes going defected. So if you like it then you wont regret it later. You can always upgrade later and put the older scope on another gun, or sell it as they don’t depreciate much.
