Polished Edgun
Hello,
Has anyone stripped and polished the air tube and shroud of there Edgun.
I would love to see some pictures if its been done.

Indeed! Polish don’t polish guns, we prefer them to disapper with help of hydrographic process… like this:
If I read you right…let me advise you that you need NOT to send your Leyla to Poland!!!
I wonder what compound and/or chemical would remove the factory metal finish. I don’t believe it is “blued”…so if it is anodized, perhaps there is a name brand solution that would remove the OEM metal finish, without damaging the gun.
I do believe one could polish the stripped metal to a “buffed aluminum” finish with some sweat equity. That would be sweet!!!! Might have to coat it with a protective substance, like CLP (?)
Anyone out there have experience with removing the OEM metal finish?
A little help would be appreciated.

The only change I would have made is to polish that trigger guard.

Here’s a customer (MARK) wanting some detail polishing with a full power tune: side of weaver rail and cap screw head, mag OD, shroud end cap and vents, baffle torque nut, side of trigger guard, side of trigger blade, end of shroud through hole and crowned. After major tuning and some polishing she really feels custom at 37fpe .22

I may do it as a winter project, but like you say it could be an expensive mistake.
The polishing would be easy, just take your time, its the stripping that I think could cause problems.

I saw a Leyla done in polished aluminum and it was beautiful.
I tried to order one, but that is a special order item, but there are no special orders taken, so that kind of thins the options.
I’d do it myself, but just don’t have the skllls, or polishing devices, to undertake such a project and expect the results I would want. It’s just too expensive to risk, for me. However, if someone else has the equipment and knowledge to do this, I would love to see the results!!!

So if it’s shiny use a camo net or tape when hunting and then take it off, Mr. Tactical is talking out his butt.
Have not seen a polished ED but I have seen a few other rifles that are polished (FWB, USFT, Steyr). Not my cup of tea really, kinda tacky, but if it floats your boat go for it. I have not seen any oxidation issues with the polished air guns (or motorcycle parts/frames), probably because they are polished.
The moderator shroud is not a stressed part, the barrel shroud is, but it is in compression and not that much compression really.
You could polish the shroud and barrel covers without ANY issues (as long as you don’t heat them to a dull red with a torch). I doubt you’ll get above 100º and even at 125º you’d be just fine. I’ve had my ED outside and in the sun on a 105º day for a few hours without any issues at all.
Obviously don’t use any kind of chemical stripper to remove the anodizing (for any of the parts, it probably wouldn’t hurt the mod cover or barrel shroud, but if you did the airtube it could be suicide), once you remove the anodizing the metal will be softer and scratch easier, which IMO is the largest downside.
Unless you do the whole thing I don’t think it would look that good at all. 😕
And I wouldn’t polish the air tube.

I’ve seen some really nice polished Ripleys, Only an idea anyway, if I do it and dont like it can easily get it anodised.

With all that mutual respect for everyone on the site and all, I’ll tone down my response to this.
I hope no one has done this. First, its gotta kill any tactical use of the gun. A bright polished tube would stand out in the woods. Second, Polishing weakens the metal. Third, the tube helps keep everything lined up properly(I think) and the heat from polishing usualy warps things. Fourth, I would imagine oxidation would be a constant pain in the ass.
I wouldn’t do any cosmetic polishing to my airguns other than the bolt handle. But that’s just me.
