Fill pressure
Greetings from yet another new guy. Just bought a used Cricket .22 standard with synthetic stock. So far I am loving it, as was expected.
It says fill to 300 bar so that is what I did. Much to my disappointment, my Tiger Shark tank (4500 psi) could only fill the gun to max once, with subsequent fills at 280, 260, etc. Didn’t really have time to shoot more than that. It looked to me like after about 70 shots my POI started dropping. Now I’ve been reading the Cricket forum and notice all these folks who only fill to 250 or less, and still report large shot counts. Should I not be filling to the 300 bar max? The guy I bought the gun from said he was getting around 70-80 shots with JSB 18.1’s at 918 fps. I turned the hammer spring adjuster screw out only a couple of turns since I don’t have access to a chrony just yet so I’m not positive what I’m getting for fps. I’m sure I can get several fills per tank if I don’t have to go to the full 300 bar each time but will just have to deal with the diminishing shot amounts each time. Thanks for listening.

This gun came with an after market HST adjuster. I will have a chrony available Wed to play with. I’m quite encouraged by what I’m reading. The previous owner said he had it cranked way in and was shooting 18.1’s @ 918
I fill usually to 210 – 220 bar.
I fill my Cricket .22 compact from a Tigershark tank to 220 bar and get 42 shots per fill @ 860 fps with about 10 (maybe more can’t remember) fills from the tank.
An aftermarket hammer spring tension adjuster is also a worthwhile investment but requires a chrony which is mandatory for pcp.
Glad I read it,, I am going to be more careful at filling my 22 cricket next time.

I only fill to 210 bar and shoot down to 120 bar. I still get 50-55 good shots.

Thanks guys, and yes, that whole “more efficient” thing does make sense. I do plan on getting a chrony

Just like Ratracer said. If you’ve not yet noticed, your gun is less air efficient per shot when filled to high pressure.
Watch how much your gauge falls from shooting two mags at a 260-300bar fill, then shoot another two mags at a ~230bar fill and see how much less your gauge falls– your using less air per shot.
So although you get more shots from a full 300bar fill, your wasting a lot of air.
You could get many more shots in the long run out of that tiger shark tank by only filling your gun to 240bar max.
It seems weird because your not getting as many shots and filling your guns tank sooner, but low fills is what will get the most shots off your fill tank.
Filling that high taxes the regs efficiency, kinda like valve lock. You’ll get more quality shots on 230 bar fills, + fills. Invest in a chrony. It really is vital for changing and diagnosing these guns.
