Spring or washer spring regulator

Hi ALL,
Has anyone used spring based regulator ( Rober Lane) , and how is it compared to washer spring regulators used on top Irguns such as Cricket , Edgun , and other great guns.

Thanks TM for your comprehensive reply . I also heard good feed back about Robert Lanes’s regulators , hence the inquiry.

Best regards

Robert Lane makes a quality product, he is one of the most knowledgeable people that I have ever met. When it comes to airgun regulators he makes the best do not hesitate to buy one. Besides they aren’t that much anyways.

But as to your original question Spring washer or traditional spring regulator… That is a different question. It is funny I was just today talking to Robert about this very same subject. I have a personal opinion that they are better(belleville washer’s) then traditional spring washers. I can get a tighter fps spread, I can get it down to 5 fps spread with real quality spring belleville washers, and a properly designed regulator piston and body and good o rings. I also believe I have much more fine tuning control with spring washer regulators, by adding one, doubling up and changing between different thicknesses to get just about any psi I want. There can be problems with spring washers if they aren’t perfectly aligned they have sharp edges that can dig into one another, so make sure they have a snug fit around the main regulator shaft. Make sure they aren’t loose and clean and service them if you notice any problems. Also as far as response rate I know bellevilles are far better. Looking at them from a paintball regulator perspective a really good quality spring washer regulator really is awesome to watch cause it doesn’t have much shoot down at all and is very consistent when firing rapidly, even at fully automatic speeds.

But traditional spring washers can be just as good. I would definitely recommend one of Roberts regulators every day of the week and unless you know the spring washer regulator is of top quality then go with a spring regulator. Robert is very kind and responds to emails and can answer your questions, better then most. In fact I ordered one of his regulators for my marauder and love it.

Having a great regulator is only 1 part in a 4 act play. Their is spring tension, valve spring, valve size, hammer weight, hammer preload. All sorts of things need to work in harmony and a regulator will not solve everything if other parts of the gun are out of whack. When it comes to airforce airguns having a regulator is everything. In fact building about 25 regulators for my friends who use airforce guns is what got me started in regulators. It is a shame Airforce doesn’t make a regulated version because if they did the gun would be a real contender for accuracy against almost anything. The Lothar Walthar barrels on these can be soo sweet!
