Possible .257 Rainstorm 2 Thoughts?
So here’s the plan: Convert a Rainstorm 2 to .257 using a 1-14 TJ barrel. I’ll pretty much only be shooting the 257420 slugs. It’s just cheaper having only one type of bullet to worry about. Simple enough conversion I think… But those that have experience w/these korean guns when tuned by Will Piatt (Spelling?), What are your thoughts? I’m not expecting a 600 yard rifle or anything. I know it’s not a Haley rifle. Here’s the idea for now:
26″ barrel
extend the main tube to match the barrel
foster fill conversion
single shot tray
I’d like to go longer on the barrel so that it works for me to get a bit more speed and efficiency, but for this platform, how long is too long? I know Roachcreek’s old Haley was a 36″ barrel, and he was using higher than 3k psi. I’m thinking I’m going to have to stick to 3k… Maybe a 30″ barrel? Another reason for a longer barrel is so that I can also have a longer tube- kind of a win-win.
Reason for the Rainstorm platform is that it’s already a .357 so I know it’ll support a .257 conversion. I LOVE where the safety is. I like that it’s a side lever. To me, it’s not a bad platform to start from…
I think my original idea w/a 26″ barrel will be a good trade off especially shooting only the 257420 bullet. I don’t want it too long because then it would be ungainly… I just wanted to hear everyone’s thoughts.

I’m probably not going to do it- I just talked w/Will about the swap and tune, and he’s thinking I’ll only be getting around 90 fpe out of the rifle.
