Q:

Automating a hand pump

I watched the shorter version of this vid a while ago, and have been thinking about it ever since.

What about building something very similar to this design, but powered by a stationary bike? How would one do that?? I’d only use it to fill a rifle or pistol- I’d hate to think how hard it would be to fill a air tank!!! Or how long it would take! What are your thought’s gents??

Not really what I’m after- I’m looking for a way to use automate a hand pump using a converted multi-speed bike… That way I wouldn’t have to rely on power.

Check on youtube “Everfill C 300”

Greetings from Argentina

Yeah- I agree with you guys, as an alternative to a shoebox? No way!! But as a no-power solution that seems (to me) easier than pumping in the normal fashion. Again- not to fill a large tank, but just guns.

Personally, I have a shoebox, and a 97 cu ft 4500 psi tank. So I’m not hurting for air- but again, what if I’m in a situation where I have no power?

How would you turn the rear wheel into the drive wheel? I think a multi-speed bike converted to a stationary would be good, because you can change up the gearing when you get tired… Just a thought.

The stationary bike thing sounds like something Fred Flintstone did to fill his PCP slingshot! Yabba Dabba Doooooooo!
Just screw in’ with ya Caboose! Actually sounds like a cool idea. Two birds, one stone! You get your gun filled and a thigh workout at the same time.
I like a guy that thinks outside the (shoe) box!

This looks like somebody was bored and happened to have the parts necessary to put it together. I applaud his ingeniousness, however it is not practical due to the lack of durability of the assembly, exposed moving parts, costs, etc.

Likely for the same financial investment, you could purchase a Shoebox compressor.

Now as for setting up an exercise bike to do that, I could see where that would be beneficial. I do not have a compressor or tanks, so I do get a workout when I play with PCP. I could see a rig like that.
