Quick change Top Hats.

I understand the hi flow tank does not work with .177 caliber. If I used a quick change top hat and the small orifice on a hi flow tank, would that allow .177 caliber to work? Maybe I do not understand why the .177 does not work with some of the tanks. I have an older Talon and tank and want to go for distance.
