Q:

100 yard Condor shotgun pattern

Finally got to make paper target stands and put them out on the property. 100 yards looks like I am shooting it with a shotgun. Pattern is all over the place and sometimes it will put 3 next to each other but do not know what shot order they were in when it did it. Target is a 14 X 14 scope sighting target with one inch grid lines on it and puts them every place on it. Wind was slight breeze today. Run gun at 3000 psi and refill around usually 2200 to 2500. Power wheel is all the way down and at muzzle is running 1050 to 1100 fps. I do not remember what the drop was per shot or how it was for consistency when I first got the gun and shot it. Shot the rifle about 20 times today and was not happy with the distance pattern. Using JSB 25.4 pellets in it. Rifle is all stock long barrel and standard Condor not SS version. Cleaned barrel when I first got it with patches. Tried oil the pellets even. Any help on this. I have looked over the forum but can not seem to find anything really like this.

Thanks

It will have plenty of power for squirrel.

Crank it up and shoot 6/7 rings!

Sounds like you are working your way through it. I would also agree with RJ and try lowering your velocity. The higher velocities will seem to work at shorter distances but as you get farther out there, the diablo pellets have a tendency to corkscrew if pushed too fast. At least you have control if you are lobbing them into the target at distance.

I have a total of about 400 rounds through this gun since I got it new. Scope is centered on adjustment in both windage and elevation. 20 yards gives me a small ragged hole. 60 yards it does open up a little. !00 yards was next because of taking squirrels at that distance is common with my 22lr target gun and this was the replacement for it. Checked screws on Top Hat and there were snug so I tightened a smidge more. I did go through the Help section and did search on here too. I will have too see about the adjustment on the Top Hat like I read about.

I can try that too. I was just worried of not enough power for a squirrel at 100 yards was all.

Thanks for the input guys

Slow it down to around 940fps.

Well, I would be discouraged.
Certainly should be able to do better right outta the box. Ya know there is just so many variables… I would go through a bunch of the threads in the reference section as well as searching previous posts here. Investigate and find if there is a common denominator that you might share with others.
Actually, one hundred yards seems to be about the range where average diablo style pellets are generally considered to kind of start to poo-poo peformance wise. Although, I have managed to shoot even the tiny .177 out just past a hundred with the Condor and stay consistient on the paper. Really I was impressed out to 70yrds with concentration being rewarded with under one inch groups, but just beyond 75yrds and it noticiably begins opening up…
My point being that why dontcha start out at a much closer distance and work your way through the basics, make sure ya got your scope sighted in and it isnt creeping at say 20 yrds ….
Common problems with Airforce inconsistency usually encountered are with the air charge around the breech area. If ya notice any air blast up around your face you might double check the o rings in the breech. The TopHat on the stem of the airvalve rotating loose is another very common problem. How about the air bottle to the frame? Is it fully seated? Every screw has been checked and everything snugged up? I try to clean every threaded screw with acetone and then locktite everything down.
Is your scope optically centered? How many turns away from center is your elevation turret on your scope to get you out to a hundred yards? If your too many clicks away from center the inner optical tube of the scope will not likely have enough tension left to hold the recticle point condistiently.
There’s just so many things that you have to pretty much walk through yourself and eliminate. Remember that just good enough, might seem ok but if you have more than a couple “good enoughs” or if you were to add em all up,,,, it’s just not good ,,, not good enough at all.
