Accurate but POI shift
Got the .25 condor out the other day re-zero’d the scope, which I have to usually do if the gun has sat for a period (in this case a couple of weeks). filled to around 2500, (all the pressure that was in the tank) and after shooting the first target to let things settle down the groups tightened right up.
Before I go any further, the barrel had been well cleaned and reseasoned with about 25 shots the day before.
On the day I shot these targets, there was absolutely no wind.
Here’s what was happening:
4 shots in a ragged hole on the bulls-eye at 30 yards with JSB Kings. Then the fifth shot lands about 1.5 inches at 2 O clock.
Starting on a new target, still aiming at the center, i get 3-4 shots in one ragged hole at the same 2 O Clock POI.
Start a new target and the tight group is starting to migrate back towards the center, landing halfway between the center and the 2 O Clock position.
I’m thinking it could be:
A. Me
B. the scope
C.the rifle
I felt that I was pretty calm that day so i got out my Marauder .25, same pellet (different scope) and proceeded to put several shots through one clean hole right on the bull at 30 yards.
Is it the scope? is it that POI might change as pressure drops? i should put the Condor scope on the Marauder and see what happens but lately I don’t have much free time.anyone got an idea?

Well that’s great to hear. It seems a lot of scopes are bad.
The weather finally cooperated yesterday so I got the Condor out, took off the scope and scavenged a Hawke Airmax EV 3-9X40 off of another rifle. Mounted and zero’d at 30 yards and settled into testing off the bag. Windless sunny day.
Shot a few groups to let the scope settle in….And……. no POI shifts.
AS a final challenge, refilled the rifle and went for a 10 shot group at 30 yards. Result? 10 shots through one ragged hole, right in the center…..
Best I’ve ever shot with this gun. I knew that it could do better than it had, especially with that LW barrel.
Conclusion: I’m very convinced now that it’s the scope. I’m leaving the Hawke right where it’s at and will shoot more next weekend as it’s dark now by the time I get home from work.

Got out on Sunday before the weather started to turn bad. Nice & chilly, but a calm day. Wanted to see if the Hawke scope was still shooting good. And the answer is yes.
I didn’t do any big testing, but things were grouping nicely and I was consistently hitting paintballs off of golf T’s at 30 yards…. then hitting all the golf T’s. That’s good enough for me. I know 30 yards isn’t a big deal, but with the other scope I wouldn’t have hit the paintballs consistently.
I think I’m satisfied now with the POI shift “culprit.” Guess I’ll send the scope back in under warranty and think about buying a new Hawke Sidewinder…
