Ordered Tony’s top hat, hammer with slap mode, breech orings and PW stainless screw today. Hope they work out for me!

Really hard to say if your groups will tighten with different lead. Air guns are picky critters when it comes to ammo. What one gun likes, another may not. It’s going to be a trial and error thing with ammo.
As far as the top hat goes, you shouldn’t have any problems with the new unit from Tony. I don’t have experience with the Tony top hat in .22 but I run mine wide open in .25 with no tank dump.

So You say,,,,,,use a insert?, I figured I’d use the most restrictive insert, mines is a .22 and I use a hill pump so I want it to sip air till I get a scuba system
Shoot it today at 100 yards I shot 10 into a 3″ group and fighting wind, pw on 0, ave 945 fps 18gr JSB, on a 2.5k fill’. Port and polished my top hat, but after 20 shots it loosens up, hope the TT top hat cures this, thanks guys for the input

When you get the top hat if the gun is 22 cal dont waste your time with no insert. Mine dumps the tank everytime with no insert nomatter where the pw is set or what hammer is used. Like said polish the end of the barrel while apert. I did mine with a dremel to a mirror finish. Barrel is too fat to fit in the drill to spin it and polish. Talon tunes stuff is pretty nice. I have been impressed.

il just do the narrow part of the barrel, i dont want a rust issue, i live at the beach and salt is in the air…lol
I polished my entire barrel but you don’t have to go that far. Just the narrow end where the breech rides on it. I just did it with sand paper. Started with #400 to remove the “bluing” then #600, #800 and finished off with #1500 paper. Came out like a mirror finish. When you do the whole barrel, it also looks pretty cool when the shroud is off.

awesome info!, what works good at polishing the breech, i ordered diver silica and the breech rings from Tony too
Something else you may want to do ( while the gun is apart) is to polish the breech end of the barrel where the breech o rings ride on it. This makes for a smoother action and also helps the o rings last longer.

I’ve never done the o ring behind the top hat thing so I really can’t offer any info on that. The slap modded hammer will offer a much quieter hit to the breech. As far as the top hat goes, it’s the best thing since the invention of the Air Force rifle. Not only will it eliminate the possibility of the top hat coming loose, it offers ” tunability”.
There are a lot of things that Air Force SHOUlD have taken into consideration when designing these guns. Tony has come up with a cure for these problems. Including that ” dumb ass ” plastic screw in the power wheel!

thanks for the reply Wildfire, will i still want a oring behind the tophat? what can i expect after this upgrade mod?
You will be very happy with those parts and installing them will give you some experience disassembling and reassembling your gun.

I have a 22 cal also. With 25.4 gr jsb, smallest restrictor, 3 k fill, 95 gr hammer with slap mod, pw 0 and slide was 1 i got 31 shots with a 26 fps spread and 43 fpe. Was a noce set up. I got it running on a jds reg set up now and thats the only way i can shoot with no fitting in the ttqc top hat.
