25Cal Sudden Velocity Drop!!!
This story starts out like most Oil field stories which is “this ain’t no shit”. I was shooting shooting off the bench this evening at 60yds and all was going well when instantly one of my shots dropped about 21/2″ low :suprisedn:. Chanbered another and pellet and it went right beside the first one :suprisedn: :suprisedn: :suprisedn: . I chronied the gun and it had dropped from 930-940 to 830’s. I first thought my gauge had failed and I had fallen off of regulated pressure but I refilled to 230bar and no change. It took 1.75 turns CW on the HS to bring me back up to the 930’s. I also thought that maybe the HS adjuster being plastic had stripped and slipped back but it felt good when I cranked it in to bring my velocity back up. Any thoughts??

Awny that’s my trigger assembly out of my custom AMT. Had a broken hammer I had to replace.
along with a custom paint job.
I didn’t shoot a lot of pellets through it after I made the adjustment to the HS but it seemed like the regulator was holding there. I had left the HS adjuster so that the allen wrench fit perfectly horizontal and I’d made a mental note of how deep it set. It looked like everything was still where it was set previously. Yup, I need an upgrade for a HS adjuster. .

Anyway you can’t go wrong getting one of Imppu’s HST adjuster, they allow fine tuning as well…

I surely hope it’s not the Regulator either Grackles. I was there with my friend when his .25 Cricket crapped its pants. We were shooting at 100 yd targets and he kept complaining that he could not see the POI. Then he cranked up the HST adjuster and it shot strong for a bit as well but just like you said, the sound got softer after a while. The funniest part was that eventually when he shot the gun, the pellet skipped through the grass in front of us lol. He sent it off to AZ to get tuned and AZ confirmed it was the regulator that was the issue.
Hopefully like Hoot said, it might the HST adjuster loosening but I just can’t see it loosening that much without you noticing it.

My first thought is a regulator either works, or it doesn’t. Same with a valve. Most often when they fail, they fail.
“Ockham’s Razor” states that, as a general rule, the simplest solution is the correct solution. My guess is, absent any O-ring failures, it might be the HST adjusting plastic screw. It is a lightweight piece of shit, and that’s being generous.
You might try counting the threads showing before and after a full fill. And you can mark the breech and end of the HST with a lead pencil to note any movements between shots. It doesn’t have to be “stripped”, it can be rotated out by vibration from the hammer impact, might even jump back a couple of threads too…at least that was my experience. Might be wise to check that carefully.

Ooooh, don’t say the “R” word..If it was the regulator why would increasing hammer make any difference? Seems like the regulator would only allow so much air and maintain that velocity. I guess it would have to have a really big problem to do that though. I’ll shoot it for a while and see what happens. Heck, it might fix itself, LOL

Sounds like a bad regulator. That happened to a friend of mine.
I just checked the breech O-ring and it looks good and I didn’t notice any blow back. The gun was quieter also, indicating less power. No leaks on the AT either. It just happened from one shot to the next. I had a couple of “liquid group tighteners” but I can’t blame that. No bad gas today either..

Crack Smacker, could it be a bad o-ring? Any air lost from a slow leak? Where you dreaming from smelling gas fumes in the oil field? Anything’s possible with you oil people……..Slick as you are.
