More Fun With the .257
More fun with the .257.
As many of you know, I have been testing the newest version of the R&L Extreme Valve in conjunction with their 27 5/8โ Barrel offering This is ongoing, with more to follow.
These test were conducted with the R&L valve, bbl. And an aftermarket 4500 psi CF bottle I have here. The bottle is not an R7L Offering. I am using it to try different results with higher pressure. These Numbers were obtained with 3600 psi. Of course, higher numbers can be reached with a higher fill pressure.
Al Bullets were cast with either pure lead, or 20/1 Lead/Tin Mix..
Here are a few numbers, along with a few Picโs.
NOE 80 Gr. Flat point ———————-934 Fps @ 3600 psi ——–155.00 Fpe
NOE 60 Gr. Flat Point———————–1027 Fps @ 3600———–140.56 Fpe[/img]
Lyman 70 gr (257420)————————-956 Fps @ 3600————142.09
Lyman 54 Gr. “” “”——————————1058 @ 3600—————-134.25
100 Gr Spire Point (Tofazfou) —————-849 @ 3600—————–160.09
While these numbers are below what can be accomplished with the Dyotat valve, they are very competent numbers, and give a decent shot count.
Hopefully, the Dyotat Valve Stem will be available again soon!
And I understand that Doug is making an effort to make the .25 valve readily available to us at on short notice. But I will let Doug chime in on that one. LOL!!!
The three bullet on the right were supplied by our own Tofazfou. I am awaiting a 70 Gr. NOE from Cedric from a mold I decked for him. Mine throws them at 60 grains, and I have another one that throws them at 80 grains. I rally want to try a 70 Grainer before milling the 80 gr mold I have n the shop.
He suggested that I cast from it before sending the finished mold back to him, but I always feel a bit odd using other peoples equipment. Soooo-, I have no experience with the bullet at 70 grains. YET!!! LOL!!! ๐
do know that both Tofazfou and Dyotat are getting good results with it.
