Q:

If a body wanted to put a CF tube over the ‘Bird shroud…

What would be the OD of the shroud on the Hummingbird? The OD of the air cylinder?

I saw on Youtube, where a fella that talked strange, put a CF tube over his Colibri shroud, making certain to drill vent holes to line up with the OEM vent holes, and did the same on his air cylinder, it looked quite nice!

Is there a body out there in the abyss that has some calipers, and can state with accuracy, what these sizes are?

I just noticed the six vent holes at the bottom of the shroud in this pic.

3M carbon fiber wrap is what they are most likely using.

Like I said that particular one probably had a real cf shroud (note the S/N its number 001!) It was one of the first birds that actually was small and sexy unlike todays chunky offering.. the cyl is definitely a vinyl wrap though, check out the badly aligned seam towards the front of the cyl in fat fingers pic and note the smooth fitment to the guns frame (no sign of a larger diameter cyl from real C/F where it meets)..
The cap screw holes and vent holes in the shroud or what I like to call “Earnest speed holes” can be cut in the vinyl with a craft knife and a red hot paperclip etc

He´s not fat – he´s well fed. That actually looks like a real CF combo on his gun – which coincidentally looks tiny in his sweaty hands.

Ok….Wing-nut, how did the fat boy get that nice silver tip on his shroud??? (note how tight his ring fits? BMI is way high!)

He´s gone bonkers again and talking to himself – thru this eminent Forum. 🙄

Whoa…I would never thought of that. Good point!

Kiwi-Beak, does the CF shroud defeat the vents for the baffles in reducing sound? The CF shroud looks very tight? One of my associates brought it to my attention…

Thanks!

Hoot: …i think…

Hey! I just thought of something, you might ask Kiwi-beak if the carbon fiber tube “muzzles” the air vents in the ‘Bird shroud, you know, the ones that line up with the baffles!!!

Just saying…..

Thanks! I thought it was funny, although I doubt the rest of the forum will appreciate it.

I do, however, appreciate your grasping my sense of humour!

By gawd…now that was clever!!!

…And how much is 1/16″ in modern way of measuring anyway ?

About this “..” much!

Maybe he likes the real thing ?

You could grind/sand the bottom flat on the CF tube to about half it’s thickness. Harder but better if one can machine it concave to a slightly larger diameter of 1 7/8″ = 1.875″ , the Air Cylinder being 1.767″ .

I don’t think it will be all that noticeable until looking from under.

Most probably true. Way to go Wingey !

Hootsie & Zonkey are just being jealous on those bite marks on my Finnish leather flute. Do not pay any attention to them , Guys.

And how much is 1/16″ in modern way of measuring anyway ?

Most of that carbon tube has a wall thickness of at least 1/16″ and there is not enough space between the H/B’s Cylinder and shroud to sleeve them both.
I think you will find that it was a c/f suppressor but the cyl had a c/f look alike vinyl decal wrap on it like the images below.. there are some pretty good matt finished carbon fibre vinyls out now, they look just like the real thing if you match up the joining seam well or have it out of sight.. its probable that both part had this vinyl fitted.

My granny use to say it was fine to talk to yourself, as long as you didn’t answer back. You sir, broke the golden rule. Good thing granny’s dead or she’d think you’re nuts.
