Donny does it again with an AWESOME LDC!!!
I just had to post this up.
Back in October, Donny put up a thread about a new CF shroud and LDC he was working on, then after ZONK reviewed the first proto-type and posted how quiet it was… I contacted him and ordered the shroud and LDC. My .25 caliber was the first long version he had tried with this new design… Well he actually got the Shroud out before his wife delivered their brand new baby and right after that, he sent me the LDC… I loved the shroud and when I got the LDC I made a run to my hunting property and tried out the LDC… it was quiet but… I had a clipping issue. Donny worked with me to help tune it, but he wasn’t satisfied with what I was getting so just before the Christmas Holiday, I was surprised with one of his latest and greatest new designs… I was headed out west to do some deer hunting so it came in just in time… I threw it in my shooting gear and took off… When I got there, I put it on the gun and just shot it… WOW! the ONLY sounds I heard were the hammer slap and the pellet slap the target! BINGO! I am primarily an archer when it comes to big game hunting, but I took my cricket with me just in case I saw one of the corn bandits (raccoon) while I was on stand… sure enough a couple showed up. Deer were there too nearby. I shot 2 coons and DID NOT SPOOK THE DEER and they were less than 50 yards away!! That’s serious quiet. I’m going out to do a little tweaking/tuning this weekend, weather permitting just to see what I can do with it, but if you guys are looking for a way to quiet your .25 crickets more than the factory shroud even with the Earnest mods, get yourself a CF Shroud and LDC from Donny!

When I was shooting birds with it they just sat there and one after another they just kept dropping. Didn’t even fly away.

Grackle, on the .25 and .22, the shrouds are about 3/4 of an inch longer than OEM. That is basically the cap to hide the 1/2 x 20 male adapter. The .25 and .22 are two different beast 🙂 From the reports that I am getting, the shroud alone will not quiet it down much more than OEM. However, the LDC will take away any muzzle blast that is there. The loudest noise you will hear is the hammer slap and pellet impact.

Saltwaterslick, how much length did it add to your 25 and was yours the Standard. Does it screw on just like the factory shroud? I think Zonk said the shroud alone quieten it a lot but adding the LDC was the cats meow.

I told you it was awesome. I got to play with it for a week of two before I sent it back to Donny.
I got the first generation LDC from Donny. They are made from PVC, I really like them and say they are some of the best money I have spent on my Crickets, .22 and .25
Donny is a straight up guy and deals good with his customers , Support the sport and the guys that support the sport….

This new one is vented top and bottom, front and back with a series of very small holes in the OD of the LDC. First time I put it on my rifle, my POI did not seem to change. I didn’t shoot it for accuracy on my targets. I took it out first morning with me when I went deer hunting. First shot on a coon’s head, was lights out. Second, right in the ear hole… that’s good enuf for me. Will punch some paper at longer ranges hopefully this coming weekend. I will post up my results.

My .25 is the long version with the 24 inch barrel. The CF shroud is a bit longer than the factory shroud and is held on by a set screw. As a matter of fact, this allows you to fine tune the shroud/LDC combination by twisting the shroud with the LDC attached in case you have some minor degree of mis-alignment to avoid clipping. I will say that adding the LDC makes my cricket a looong son of a gun! But if you have room for it to operate, it is well worth it for the quiet.
Now Keep in mind that the hammer slap AND the sound of the pellet smacking whatever it hits, is pretty loud. The normal air gunner has no idea how loud that hammer hitting the valve is until everything else is made quiet so you can really hear it. I have a Condor SS too and Tony’s hammer with the anti-slap mod sure helped it to quieten down the total noise package it made… wonder if Tony has such a thing for the crickets?
