Q:

Fun to shoot – Prod

I bought a prod from walmart.com last week and it arrived last Thursday. It is a fun little gun to shoot. I wasn’t too happy with the OEM carbine stock so I ordered the AR 15 kit from R. Arms Innovation and a 1/2 x 20 adapter from Wicked Air Rifle. The AR 15 shoulders really well and I can quickly shoulder, aim and shoot with accuracy. It is well balanced and I don’t find myself struggling to keep the target between the crosshair. With my 5 inch LDC, the gun makes a thunk sound. Neighbors would not know what the hell that was. Literally speaking, a fart is definitely louder.

I know the purpose of the pistol is to keep it short I don’t have the right scope to shoot it as a pistol at the moment. Maybe in the future I can get a fancy stock like Cali from Brazil 🙂

Thanks to SEcoda, GKU and CAlbarry for the info on this gun. Next up is a custom 3 1/2 inch LDC for it. Just waiting on materials.

Yea, I am looking at 25 green mountain barrels , and bottles for the Prod,
Mike

PRod was my first PCP gun and it was a lot of fun. aside from the cheapo gauges and plastic magazines, it really performed well. I tweaked it so it was shooting in the mid 700’s and luckily it really liked Wally World CPHP’s in the tins…Very quiet and accurate enough. A Cricket replaced it and I still miss it.. Might have to buy another one..this time I’d regulate it, though..

Funny after IO post this the pictures are back,
I think my computer is P rod sensitive?
Mike

Ok guys where are the pictures of the cool P rods?
Also include your little trick add ones , Like what is the big power add on, I bet the spring wins out over the valve,
If there is someone out there that can cut the Green mountain the same as the 22 or maybe a little shorter, Hell I can take a 900 fps P rod its fast enough for me…
and the Green Mountain barrel in 25 would just be honey in the pot, I am a BIG 25 fan anyways ,
Noting wrong with a 25 P rod shooting at 900 fps ,
You got a problem with that , Speak up,
Mike

Wow guys cool looking Prods. I really like the AR 15 stock look,, And the rapid air one looks like you might shoot your fingers off with the stock barrel on it.
I have heard of some guys putting the .25 Green mountain barrel on the Prod, Not real sure how long that would make it , But the Green mountain barrel would make it a .25 tack driver, CZ barrel would be over cost I am sure,
Trying to get my .25 Marauder Bull pup canon built right now,
I been saying I want a Prod, Just to many wants and irons in the fire right now.
Vulcan goes on back burner again,
Mike

I also shoot my P-Rod alot. The TKO works great.

How much did your DIY night vision setup cost you total?? And does it screw up the balance or make it really top heavy? Thanks Sloth

The major components were about $200, all on ebay. EJ230 camera $100, T20 IR illuminator $80, 5″ lcd $20. Then a few more bucks for various mounting gizmos. I’m still working on the setup to try to lighten it a bit, ditching the heavy battery and going to 2 18650 cells, and getting rid of the rca/bnc/power plugs by hard-wiring. Have seen the “scopeless” setups which are cleaner overall… maybe in the future. Having all that stuff on it does affect the balance a bit because the entire gun is so compact, but it’s not bad. The lcd mount that I have on there angles up and down, so I’ve been shooting from the hip like Rambo 🙂

I like the AR 15 adjustable butt a lot compared to the OEM carbine. It shoulders a lot better.

Thanks for sharing Donny, your setup is actually what I want. I have lurking here awhile, but you inspired me to get moving. I am trying to decide on scope, but started to buy other things.

Looks good Donny! I agree, the Prod is really fun. I had mine set up like yours with the AR stock before I bought the Rapid BP, just wanted something slightly shorter. I’ve been messing around with a DIY night vision cam setup for popping rats… aesthetically it’s still a bit of a work in progress, but functionally it’s awesome. I think my next upgrade may be an aftermarket barrel, same length but one that’s not so pellet picky.

I have the same exact Prod setup.. How much did your DIY night vision setup cost you total?? And does it screw up the balance or make it really top heavy? Thanks Sloth
And here’s my before and after pics of my Prod..
How it is now-

How it was before-

I wouldn’t mind pumping the Hoffman a few times. He’s a legend! Dman get back to installing your personal soap dispenser that you claim makes you feel even dirtier after washing your hands.

Heard you got a new soap dispenser donny

Looks like I’ll get the aluminum

Are you doing the aluminum or steel doubler?

Are you doing the aluminum or steel doubler? I am shooting 14 FPE (keeps it real quiet) and that doubler kicks the shot count from 24 to about 56. 😯

The Prod is actually a .22 cal. Most of the parts I had but I’ll list them here:

Marauder Pistol from Walmart $368.27 with free shipping: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Benjamin-Marauder-PCP-.22-Caliber-Air-Pistol/16536073
I got it here because returning stuff is very easy and they’re everywhere.

Harris S series Bipod $106.50 from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Harris-Engineering-S-BRM-Hinged-Base/dp/B000JJGXAI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1421164222&sr=8-2&keywords=harris+bipod
I think I actually got it cheaper with Amazon Prime. Don’t see it anymore.

Bug Buster UTG 3-9×32 from Pyramid Aire $94.97: http://www.pyramydair.com/s/a/UTG_3_9x32_AO_Compact_CQB_Bug_Buster_Rifle_Scope_Illuminated_Mil_Dot_Reticle_1_4_MOA_1_Tube_Medium_Max_Strength_Lever_Lock_Weaver_Rings/4222

I like the compactness of this scope and great for within 50 yds. I would recommend high rings for this gun because it has to clear the magazine underneath it.

1/2 x 20 UNF adapter for LDC $40 from Wicked Air Rifle: http://www.wickedairrifles.com/store.html

AR 15 six position collapsible stock and adapter (Rai 008) $100 from R Arms Innovation: http://www.rarmsinnovations.com/shop/

I also had a swivel stud laying around so I added that to the foregrip for the Harris Bipod to attach to.

Next will be Prod double from Airgun lab. $168: http://www.airgunlab.com/products/p-rod_double
