Condor SS vs. Talon SS (Help me!)
Hey guys, New member here!!
Tax return (and wife ;p ) is allowing me to invest in my first PCP (prepared to go all in!)
I cannot settle on the Condor SS or Talon SS. I am a hunter first, target shooter second. I will be taking squirrels, rabbits, pigeons, groundhogs, foxes, raccoons, general pests small and large, and I’m sure coyotes as well. Heres the deal…
The Condor SS clearly has the power I desire, but is it quiet enough? I hear so many mixed reviews on the shot signature it makes me wonder if it is even worth using it over my custom 10/22! I need quiet/ stealth and maneuverability. The Overall Length of the Condor SS is as long as I want to go so I do not want to have to add a suppressor to it to quiet it down. If I can get opinions and definite answers on the noise level of this gun I will purchase it immediately. While I don’t live in the city, I still demand it to be “backyard friendly”.
I would go with the Talon SS and suppress it with a TT Suppressor or something but I am concerned it would not meet my needs power wise. I love the handiness of the Talon SS but cannot get over the fact that it may not always provide all the power I want when stretching way out there or taking the night foxes and ‘coons.
Is a “Talandor” the best bet for me? Should I go ahead and get the Talon SS and upgrade to Condor Specs (aside from the longer barrel) suppress it, and have a short, powerful little gun?
I am rather conflicted at the moment…my life is somewhat falling apart over this (first world problems)… So please, give me all the info and experience you can. And trust me, I’ve watched and read everything I could find on both of these guns. I suppose it would just help me more to have my direct questions answered here!
Either tell me the Condor SS is plenty quiet enough for all my purposes, or tell me the Talon SS has the power I need!
(.25 Cal is most likely) (Will probably get other cal barrel for it as time goes on)

I am hunting exactly the same game, with a TalonSS. I actually use a TalonP tank for compact carry.
Never had an issue taking down any of those listed.
Buy both!

More FYI:
About a year ago I frame ported my two AF guns it helped to lower the frequency to make it a bit more quieter.
I was reluctant to do this when the gun was new so I waited a while before doing the mod.

Hey man! I do not doubt it! I would do this is a flash but the overall length with Tony’s 6″ shroud has got to make it about 44.5″ Overall Length. That sure seems long :/ I used to live in Southern California where I would lay up on the porch and “snipe” squirrels with my .17HMR all day… Overall Length was not a big issue then. Now I live in Southern VIrginia in heavily wooded areas. I need it to be pretty handy. Would you still consider your Condor SS with 6″ shroud attached to be “handy” and a good walk about gun?
And what is it like without the shroud? Still bearable? Thanks!
Walk about, yes it works, but for me, walking about in the woods, I do not use the extra shroud. It’s pretty quiet right out of the box with a good tune. I also have a cricket .25 and it’s quieter than the box stock standard cricket… Now I’ve silenced the cricket with one of Donnyfl’s shroud/LDC, but factory to factory, the condor is quieter.

I started with a .22 CondorSS. After only a short time and a lot of reading here and other forums, I learned that the Condor is really a power house and you cannot truly enjoy the use of its potential with a .22 barrel, so I ordered a .25 barrel. With the addition of Tony’s 6″ shroud, it is Extremely quiet. The only sounds you hear is the hammer slap (which I minimized with Tony’s hammer/ with slap mod) and then the pellet impact. Mine is absolutely backyard friendly. With a 2700 psi fill and shooting down to 2000 psi, PW setting 4/4. I’m shooting 25.4 gr JSB’s at 900 fps dead silent. My lonest shot on video is a 97 yard head shot on a turtle sitting on a log in the creek. Next shot was 113 yards with the same results only I forgot to push the record button on the camera… With little mod, you can make the Condor very quiet.

I have a Condor SS 25 cal and a Talon SS 22 cal both with the new Sound lock and Spin Lock tanks.
IMHO:
Quietness is very subjective, what is loud maybe not for someone else.
The reason can be may factors, ones age and type of abuse done in time.
Ones hearing sensitiveness in a slightly different frequency spectrum then another.
Take a women like my wife she can hear everything, but I don’t hear a word she is saying. lol just joking with ya !
Basically out of box with no added mods it depends on the caliber size and weight and or the velocity you tune it to.
The larger the caliber the louder and the fast the speed louder still, and the converse is true also.
From reading your applications and intended uses I’d go with a 22 or a 25 cal Condor, 25 cal more so.
Depending on your tune you may want to purchase a LDC for it even with the Sound Lock baffles the gun in my option is still a bit loud.
My 25 cal Condor SS is tuned to send JSB Kings @ 920 fps, fill to 2700 psi shot down to 2000 psi with PW@2/6 getting 40 shots.
My 22 cal Talon SS is tuned to send JSB 16g @ 700 fps, fill to 2400 psi shot down to 2100 psi with PW@3/0 getting 70 shots.
On both I’ve change the Top Hat clearance and added an O-ring behind it.

Thanks for the link and advice. I wish I could get both but at this time I will only be getting one. I am leaning towards the Condor SS .25 with all the Talon Tunes goodies used to quiet it down some. Hopefully that will make for a handy, powerful, quiet little PCP that will meet all my needs.
If not then I will sell it, go with a Talon SS in .25, get a Talon Tunes Shroud and everything else that is needed to mod it, and see how it goes with that. Might be lacking somewhat in power but it would make for a much more portable, handy gun, and much quieter I would assume.

That was the big question back in the day. Condor for power or TalonSS for silence and shot count.
Some guys even went with two different tanks, high flow and standard.
That is why we developed the Quick Change Top Hat…
Now you can have the best of three worlds.
High output
Med. output and low.

Well I’m not really “into” AF guns… just so happens that’s the first PCP I bought… Used American Express bonus points and bought it off Amazon… That was the beginning of my obsession/addiction! Much more fun than AR Powder burners ’cause I can do it in my back yard… Used to say cheaper too, but today, not so much what with all the guns, tanks compressors, regulators, scopes, You name it!!!
Sure is fun tho!
I’m gonna look into porting my AF Condor frame too. Don’t mess with it much anymore since I got those bugs… but it is a powerhouse!
