Q:

Talon SS vs Condor SS

Hey guys, New member here!!
Tax return (and wife ;p ) is allowing me to invest in my first PCP (prepared to go all in!)

I cannot settle on the Condor SS or Talon SS. I am a hunter first, target shooter second. I will be taking squirrels, rabbits, pigeons, groundhogs, foxes, raccoons, general pests small and large, and I’m sure coyotes as well. Heres the deal…

The Condor SS clearly has the power I desire, but is it quiet enough? I hear so many mixed reviews on the shot signature it makes me wonder if it is even worth using it over my custom 10/22! I need quiet/ stealth and maneuverability. The Overall Length of the Condor SS is as long as I want to go so I do not want to have to add a suppressor to it to quiet it down. If I can get opinions and definite answers on the noise level of this gun I will purchase it immediately. While I don’t live in the city, I still demand it to be “backyard friendly”.

I would go with the Talon SS and suppress it with a TT Suppressor or something but I am concerned it would not meet my needs power wise. I love the handiness of the Talon SS but cannot get over the fact that it may not always provide all the power I want when stretching way out there or taking the night foxes and ‘coons.

Is a “Talandor” the best bet for me? Should I go ahead and get the Talon SS and upgrade to Condor Specs (aside from the longer barrel) suppress it, and have a short, powerful little gun?

I am rather conflicted at the moment…my life is somewhat falling apart over this (first world problems)… So please, give me all the info and experience you can. And trust me, I’ve watched and read everything I could find on both of these guns. I suppose it would just help me more to have my direct questions answered here!

Either tell me the Condor SS is plenty quiet enough for all my purposes, or tell me the Talon SS has the power I need!

(.25 Cal is most likely) (Will probably get other cal barrel for it as time goes on)

Thanks guys 🙂

My advice to you is upgraded hammers and tophats are okay, but stay away from “high performance” springs. They massively increase the volume of the gun, often with little or no benefit. I ditched my high performance spring and it brought the noise right down to backyard friendly with no loss in power at all! Also made the thing easier to cock and no doubt has increased shot count. Even the talon with moderator goes really loud with one of these springs.

Thanks for the advice!

I second the motion to stay away from those damn springs.. noisy and thats about all..

I’m running my condor with a TT tophat and the large insert – the neighbors hear nothing.

That is what I like to hear! Thank you for your input. Any other info you feel like sharing would be much appreciated as I determine which one Im am about to drop some serious $$$ on

Given your situation, I’d highly recommend the Condor SS. It can be very quiet, if you tune it down with lower pressure and/or heavy rounds, but when you want it, it has power to spare. I see no real upside in picking a Talon. Not that it’s a bad gun, just that it’s easier to get Talon performance from a Condor than it is to get Condor performance from a Talon.

Suppose I go with a Talon Tunes Top Hat and some other mods from Tony@ Talon Tunes… would you say the Condor SS would quiet down enough to be backyard friendly?

I just need it to be quiet enough to justify getting it instead of sticking with my .22 rimfire. At my new place my .22’s are just a liiiitttlleeeee bit too much for the neighbors. I am hoping the Condor SS can take its roll as a QUIET squirrel, groundhog and pigeon killing machine.

Is an R&L shroud and the total length is 38″. It’s definately NOT city back yard friendly. It is much much quieter with the shroud installed. I’m in rural Tennessee so the sound is not a problem. Without the shroud it’s about as loud as a 22 rimfire.

So without the shroud it is .22 loud… what would you say it is WITH the shroud?

How do you suppress it? And what is the overall length with suppressor?
Would you consider it NYC backyard friendly?
Or living out in the woods “backyard friendly”? Thanks for the input! 🙂

I went the Talon-Dor route when I built my rig. Started with an 18″, .25 Talon and upgraded to Condor internals. It’s a blast to shoot, very accurate and very powerful. Coyote sized game is no problem at all!
