Q:

Condor .22 groups opening up??

I have a Condor SS. I have a TT Top Hat from Tony. It was working great for about 50 shots or so. Now the groups are just not there anymore. I tightened the barrel screws. Filled to 2900 psi run it to 2000psi. 18.1 JSB pellets. Any suggestions?? I don’t have a chronograph but it is on the way. Please help 🙁

How do I go about centering the baffles. I mean if it is a baffle causing the the spuratic groups. How do you begin to center them? I cleaned the barrel tightened all the screws. Checked my scope mounts. After cleaning the barrel the first 20 or so shots were not to bad, as far as groups go. Just yesterday took it to the range was a very calm day. Groups seemed to open up again. I’m not sure what to do?

It’s often not the baffles and or cap that are off centered, it’s the barrel.

Some mistakenly over tighten the barrel bushings and this often causes them to become disfigure and making them off centered.
They don’t need to be tighten hard just snugged and blue Loctited.
They are used only to hold it in alignment to be fully secured with the 4 outer barrel screws that go all the way through to the frame/bushing/barrel.

The 2 barrel out side screws located on the bottom can be tight and blue Loctited.

After my tape test it will show how true to center your barrel is in relation to the baffles and cap.
After which you can either shim the front bushing in the right opposing place on the bushing.
And or shim the back bushing also in the opposing direction.

Remove the end cap/baffles and shoot it. See if the groups are tight that way. If so, then you probably have some clipping going on somewhere. If you pay attention to the order of the removal of the baffles and the location of pellet particles you may be able to determine which if any the baffles are causing the problem. the end cap can also be inspected for impact marks and lead slivers.

I’d use my tape test to check if the bore is on center with the baffles and muzzle hole.

The pellet doesn’t need to make actual physical contact to cause POI shifting.
The air turbulence when pellet are to close to one side of the baffles or exit hole can send the pellet off it course.

You can’t rotate the shroud on the C-SS – it’s integral. Before doing anything else I’d just go over the gun and make sure everything is still tight – barrel, endcap, trigger guard screws, scope, scope rings, base. At 50 rounds, on something that was working, it sounds to me like something is just loosening up.

If it’s still problematic you could pop the baffles out and examine them for rubs / strikes. (You could also just fire some groups without the baffles and see how it does).

stick a drink straw down the shroud baffles to get cleaning patch line past the baffles…. just a helpful hint

Or you could do it the easy way and remove the end cap and baffles all together. Then you could also inspect for clipping;)

By rotating the shroud what do you mean? The sound lock baffles? If the pellets are clipping what do I do then? ❓

Slick is right.
Always check any sound moderator for signs of clipping.
Look for any rub marks on the end cap.
Rotate shroud and try again.

First thing I’d do would be clean the barrel and check for clipping in the baffles. The Condor is very easy to disassemble. The Pandemic videos at the top of this forum will show you how to do that. You can also clean it without removing it, but it is easier to clean with it removed.
