Q:

Got my accuracy back

I bought my Cricket back in July and for some reason, over time, it started losing it’s accuracy. I switched scopes, cleaned it regularly, etc, etc…

I then called Ernest and told him I wanted a tune up and sent him a target that showed shots drifting to the right and low, shot after shot. Then I explained, when I removed the shroud, the POI was 3 1/2 low and right. There were no signs of clipping as I could recover pellets and examine them.

Ernest received my gun and told me that he had to re-seat the barrel and then found that the shroud was causing turbulence which was probably giving me the drifting POI. For good measure, he also reamed the muzzle of the shroud, opening it slightly.

With this, I started stacking pellets at 40 yards. Then today, I noticed fliers – again. WTF… However this time, I noticed chambering the pellets took more effort and the magazine was moving to center up the pellet to the barrel. So, the next 10 or so pellets, I would cock the gun, watch the magazine advance, but noticed it only went halfway. I rotated the magazine manually to center the next pellet and started stacking pellets again.

Now I have figure out how to get the indexing correct for the magazine, or settle with rotating it manually for each shot.

I’d check and see if the part is available before trying to temper it, sounds like its a strange metal.
Enjoy that working gun, instead of having one that’s not functioning 100% !!!

Glad that your accuracy return to normal, the pellets must have acquired some damage from the miss feeding.

Let us know if you get the part in from Ernest and or any updates on this part in the future.

I took mine apart seeing that the plunger was set correctly and found the same indexing “finger” bent on mine. I removed it, straightened it, then lightly hammered a slight downward bend in it. It now indexes perfectly. But for how long, who knows since this part is soft enough to bend with pliers.

How long did you have the gun, before the part bent ?

I’m hopping this is a batch issue and not continue to recur.
I try to get more info in a past post on this part from “baz” with no reply from him.

I bought it in July and probably shot 1500 pellets (had a serious arm injury for about 4 months – just recovered a month ago). Now I am back to shooting.

Anyway, the accuracy is back. Hitting a 1 3/4 metal dot at 55 yards, resting against a post, every time, is again doable.

I am going to ask Ernest for this part, then I will try to harden it by heating to the color orange, then quench it in cool oil to harden. This part is far too soft. In fact, just placing it in a vice to hold it and straighten, imprinted the vice’s clamp pattern (cross-hatch) on the metal!!

Mine is bending to the right, not at the slit in part #37, but I will check the indexing pin.

You probably can make one yourself minus those slots.

If you look for a piece of good quality steel the same thickness as and scribe the shape onto it.
A vise, files and a drill press with a bit of time and patience it can be done.

Also, if you could find a Metallurgy to re-temper the part for you.

I’ve got a mag index problem with my Kricket too. The part that rotates the magazine when you cock the gun, part #37 ( magazine index lever), which is pinned in part #35 ( http://jpeg.cz/images/2014/09/01/9jT5F.jpg ) is bent. It ends up outside / next to the notch on the magazine. So the magazine doesn’t advance when you cock the gun. So I took it apart and straightened it out. The gun worked fine for awhile but now it’s bent again. I straightened it again but this is going to break eventually. So far I’ve contacted Ernest and Matt (from WWA) and they are trying to find me the parts, but until I get the parts I’ll have to rotate the mag manually. 😥

A fix for part # 37 if you haven’t seen it already.

Also did you check if the indexing pin tension is set to high/tight ?
That can cause unnecessary stress on that part.
All the good reason to polish the indexing pin, less friction.

….. .. sure no problem, I wouldn’t turn it to much inwards CW.
Maybe no more then one full turn or so from flush max.

That’s perfect – thanks very much.

Okay.

You may decide latter if you want to polish this pin.

You don’t need to remove the receiver like in my pic below just the stock from action to adjust the tension of this pin.

There is a hex screw that should not be higher (sticking up) then the surface of the receive.

If it is, turn it down just so that it is below the surface and recheck indexing.

If not you can sent the receiver to Ernest, but talk to him first.

I would say the fit is OK. When I cock the gun and hold the cocking lever back, I then pull the magazine pin mechanism and insert the magazine. I release my hold of the pin mechanism and twist the magazine into place, feeling for the magazine to click into place – kind of down, then gently twist. When I feel this, I then push the cocking lever forward to chamber the pellet, then move the magazine pin forward in order to engage the indexing.

It is not loose and it does not bind or feel too tight.

A question first.

When loading your mag into the receiver is it tight or hard to go in and turn ?

~ GKU

We didn’t talk about the indexing and when I sent it to him, it wasn’t a problem. Therefore, I don’t think anything was done.

Is there somewhere I can research the process you are referring to? Sorry, I’m not following your instructions.

Thanks

I’d use my tape test to check if the bore is on center with the baffles and muzzle hole.

The pellet doesn’t need to make actual physical contact to cause POI shifting.
The air turbulence when pellet are to close to one side of the baffles or exit hole can send the pellet off its course.

On the mag advancing, did he polish the indexing mechanism ?

If not it can be removed from the bottom hex screw and polished with a Dremel buffing wheel.
Also Teflon tape on the hex screw treads, it has a tendency to back out from vibrations caused by the HS.
This maybe the cause of your mag indexing problem, the hex screw backed out slightly.
Other causes are not fully cocking the lever fully all the way back pass slightly beyond levers resting point.

I did this to both of my Crickets to prevent the mag from wearing a groove into the mags and smooth out the indexing/rotation altogether.
