.30 Bobcat Walnut Stock Project

I picked up a gently used .30 Bobcat, newer model (but not MKII). Upon receiving it, I immediately knew that I would have to put this one into a wooden stock. To start the project, I decided to mock up several sketches. They are as follows –

I have also started a facebook group where I will be trying to detail the making of a few of these as much as possible, while also opening up my shop to the group members in a way not possible on the forum(s) If you would like to come and join, please do – https://www.facebook.com/groups/1495365260702518/

No worries if you are not interested in the day to day, I will update this post with the major steps in progress as the project progresses.

Regards,
DaveG

Nice work.

How you finding it Dave. Thinking of picking one up myself.

My vote would be one or three. Those designs look like they’ll sit better on a rear rest, be it bag or prongs. They’re all beauties. Since the metal is all straight lines, there’s a bit more continuity in the designs with fewer curves-they seem to fit better.

Glad they all have cheek pieces.

Any interest in making a Black Walnut custom stock for an Edgun? I’ve got some pretty slabs of cured Black Walnut and a R3M with some mediocre wood. The dark walnut would have a cool “tactical black” element.

Great Work!

I really like #4. It looks like a work of art.

I like number 1. The forarm jumps right at me. It seems and is a little longer than some. It’s sleeker looking and I like the grooves up there. Nice. Almost to nice to hunt with.

We all dance to the beat of our own drums . All 5 stock concepts look great , however , if given a choice I would go for the stock concept # 4 .

FROM : THE BIRDMAN

# 2 is still my favorite, overall the proportions are just more spot on with this stock,…IMO

:tag: You have my vote on #4. Keep us posted please…

well, it is the gun that I have. It is freakin’ deadly accurate, and consistent enough that it is a joy to shoot. After a long lay off, I am itching to get back to work. It will be slow going at first, and I have other projects that I need to pay attention to, before I start cutting wood on any of these – my plan is to cut three of them. I am kind of leaving it up to the facebook group to decide which 3 (if I get enough participation).

Been asked not to talk about the project in some places, but know that there are those out there that really want to see it, regardless of what action it is on. So, I hope it is OK that I share it here, as well as anything I may wind up getting myself into 😉

i think he nailed it on the first one myself..

I like 3 and 4, looks to be the lightest. Your sketches are just as great as your woodwork Dave. Nice work!

:tag: nice to see you here Dave…. project is looking good. :biggrinn:
